Looking To Buy Scirocco

Post by selleym »

Hi,

First post on the forum so hi to everyone.
I have my heart set on a Scirocco. Now is just the decision on which one to get.

I was originally looking at a 1.4 Tsi 122 61 plate. But have now starting looking at the 2.0 Tsi GT :D .
I would be looking around a 59 plate in my price range for a 2.0 Tsi GT.
I have found one at a local garage with 25,000 miles late 2009.

I have had a look around for any know issues in the older Sciroccos but not really found anything specific so I thought I would come and ask here.

If anyone knows of any issues with the 59 plate or a Scirocco at this age that I should look out for it would be much appreciated.
(It was late 2009 batch with the old climate control but new steering wheel)

Thanks

Thanks Paul :).

Anyone still driving a 2009 2.0 GT that could say if they have had any problems? Or any differences that would made them wish they chose a 2010?

Thanks

25000.. nice.
Have you read the GT buyers guide here on the forum?
I just took the jump and bought a GT2010 model manufactured late 2009 but its pre week45 so its a MY2010 200ps, it has 45000miles. But I have only had it for 3 days so.
Mine got a new DSG-box a few years ago, not sure that says anything.
I was looking at 1.4s at first but I went for an older 2.0 instead.

Mine is a 2009 (had from new). The only difference that annoyed me slightly was not having the White MFD display, mine is still the red dash similar to a MK5 Golf. But mechanically I have no regrets at all as the 2010 model is virtually the same, albeit there was a small performance hike to 210PS. The model changes/details should be in the Roccopedia.

I've got an 09 reg 2.0 GT with the red MFD that's coming up to 62k with a DSG box. It's great and I've had no problems to date other than a faulty blower motor that was fixed under warranty. Mine has full VW service history which I'd say is essential.

Thanks Guys. The one I'm looking at has the white dash so that will be good.
Now I will just have to talk to the evil insurance company
Any additional info of what to look out for specifically on the 2009 that might not be documented in the more general threads?
Or any issues with it being 5 years old with low mileage I'm guessing lots of stop start town driving...
Thanks

Insurance company decided I'm uninsurable on that car... Not sure why.
But found lots of other insurance for £500 so going to have to cancel current one! Dam admin fees! :grumpy:

But if all goes well maybe have a look at getting it this weekend :eyepop: :D
Comes with 12 months warranty so just have to iron out anything that's wrong before that ends :)

Ooh I was also wondering if the RCD510 in the 2009 models have the ability for Bluetooth Hands Free?

Thanks

The headunits don't have BT incorporated within them but require a separate module to interface to them.

You would need to fit the OEM BT Module below the driver's seat. Even if the 2009 car had the optional BT Module, it would likely be the older type that only supports rSAP unlike the latest ones which support HFP.

Cheers Cuprabob

Is there a quick way of telling if it has Bluetooth add-on/which one when I go to have another look?

If it doesn't have the optional Bluetooth will the wiring still be in place?

if there is no module fitted, I doubt the wiring will be there.

Apart from looking under the driver's seat for the module, you can tell by pushing the "Phone" button on the headunit. If fitted there should also be a Phone menu on the MFD / DIS between the clocks.

Check general cabin noise. Some people get annoying rattles from the boot area and dash. I would also check the windows, as some motors have failed and it's expensive to repair! Make sure the windows drop and go back up into the seals. Uneven tyre wear on the inside rear tires was also an issue.

General cabin noise can be a defect? Mine is pretty loud but I thought that was due to the wide tyres, rims and just build of the car?

There is a known fault with you boot springs that pop the boot open. Creeking air vents too! I hate noise!

Is the 2009 2.0 tsi supposed to have chrome tipped exhaust?
It doesn't look like this one does? Or they might just be very dirty...

Yes - 2.0 TSI does have chrome tipped exhaust, all models 2008 on.
