Those pesky 160 issues

Post by Waspy »

So, still looking for a 160, I had directed my search to 2011 models to avoid the engine problems of pre MY2011. However there are a lot of very nice 2010 models knocking around. If car, now 4 years old, with FVWSH , and no reports of engine problems, is there still a chance it will develop said problems later on?

I obviously know that not all of the cars had the issues, and it is likely that more where prefect than not. I guess my question is, do the reported issues show early in the cars life or not?

Why have the worry go for the 2ltr, can't be that more expensive than a 1.4 ltr

Over five years (my planned ownership) it is a lot more expensive unfortunately. Not out of budget so to speak, but i think I would rather have the extra ~£1000 a year in my back pocket...

In that case just make sure you have a decent warranty over the said years and you should be ok

Mine is a May 2010 model, engine was replaced by VW on Sept. 2013, after nearly 50k km. Didn't keep me from buying it though. :)

Okay, let me back peddle a bit.

Does anyone know if you can take out a VW extended warrenty, even if the car has had a spell out of warrenty?

So for instance, if I bought a 2010 model, so out of warrenty for a year, but still fully dealer maintained, would I be able to then take out VWs extended warrenty? I dont see any reason why no, but I know they can be funny about these things.

Yes, you can take out the VW Extended Warranty if there has been a break in cover, however it will be more expensive. Best thing to do is contact Mondial at the number on the VW Website for a quote.
