Major service necessary before selling?

Post by 3t3p »

Quick one for you all,

I am going to sell my Scirocco (waaa) and get an R:p (yayyy)

Gave VW a call and they said it is due a major service as last service was this time last year.

The car is absolutely fine.

Now in order to state (honestly) on adverts that it has had full VWSH do I have to stump up the £299 for the major service or is it in fact not essential?

It's booked in for monday at the moment but can always change that obviously.

Thanks:)

Full service history is pretty definitive,it has never missed a service on time. So if it is overdue then you can't really claim it, if it is almost due you can still claim it, but people will still use it to leverage price if it's almost due. I think I would get it done and use it as a selling point, rather than leaving it and having it used agaisnt you.

What does the service counter in the MFD say? Longlife oil is normally used these days and if you have driven in a Longlife compliant way then there might be quite a way to go.

On the other hand the advice above is good.

when I start up it is saying 7000miles with the spanner symbol

I said this to the guy on the phone and he said he didn't know what that meant (or pretended to to get me in to service)

This would take it to 38,000 ish miles (just under 31,000 currently) which is what it says in my service plan (expired) for a major service

So do I go by the spanner or the guy on the phone...

If it's flagging up when you start the car it's due a service soon. Although, it's saying 7,000 miles it could be flagging up based on time, as in it was.12 months since it was last serviced.

Time & Distance.is 12 months or 9,300 miles, whichever elapses first.

Along with the mileage figure there should also be a number of days figure.

Yes as Bob says - scroll through the MFD and it should say "Service in 7,000 miles or xx days".

The issue now is whether or not the car actually requires a service at this point. When the OP responds with the details of the MFD display (in terms of 'days to go') we will get to the bottom of it!

It is due a service in terms of time passed. But in terms of mileage has 7000 left.

I don't see why in the year I have not used my car as much it would need servicing when last done at 29,000 odd miles.

Moot point regardless, I will be part-exing (I know I know) for an R:D

I'll be back...
