Creaking brakes

Post by Ruzzy »

Hi Guys,

On a rare occasions when the car comes to a complete stop it makes a creaking noise, I can find no pattern or explanation. The best I can come up with is that its something to do with the automatic brake possible, has anyone experienced this?

As of yet I haven't managed to get my roc to the dealer as this problem is intermittent and timing just hasn't worked out (I see no point taking it when its not doing it).

Thanks

Ruz

Where does the creaking noise come from - as in what area of the vehicle, N/S, O/S, etc?

When you say a complete stop, does the noise start when the vehicle is stationary?

Is this after heavy braking? Short journey? Long journey?

I may not be able to solve it, but I might be able to help you ask some of the right questions to better identify the symptoms! :)

I have tried my best to come up with a pattern in when it does it (normally quite good at stuff like that) but I have failed, last few times has been around 10.5 degrees quite often after some rain.

The sound is from the rear and I would say on both sides, nothing as you pull off just a complete stop (by that I mean right at the end of breaking when you feel the little bit of force) doesn't matter if I break hard or soft when its doing it, it just keeps doing it.

I know that all sound vague as hell but that's why it drives me nuts! most of my driving is before the garage opens or after it closes so I just haven't been able to get it there

I don't suppose you've changed your rear brakes have you... I dropped a b*ll*ck and removed the 16 splined bolt holding the caliper onto the knuckle, refitted it and discovered it was a stretch bolt... only to have it fall out some time later.

Learned that lesson the hard way.

Otherwise, it could be suspension rebound. Perhaps try to see if you can replicate the noise by giving the rear end a bit of a jounce? Mine likes to have a bit of a creak when I get out the car, and I'm not that fat...

This is not the infamous tailgate stopper issue, is it? Have you lifted the tailgate and tried the stoppers for squeaking/creaking? Seems ridiculous, but it's quite amazing how the sound transmits through the car, as if you've a bag of nails for suspension. Mine used to do this even as I got out of the seat sometimes. Lubing them doesn't seem to fix the issue, but replacing them largely does.

Not the stopper (I haven't suffered that) im almost certain its when wet and around 10c

Bouncing doesn't seem to do anything so im thinking not the suspension
