new golf gti wheel on a scirocco?

Post by pat15312 »

was looking at the interior of the scirocco studie r on my boring day off...

if you look past some of the tackier bits of carbon fibre (dont get me wrong, some of it looks quite nice), this is the interior i think anybody who is modding the roc should be looking to for styling ques. i certainly am! :D

anyways i had overlooked a major componant, the steering wheel.
this is (minus the carbon fibre look leather) the same wheel that is on the new golf gti yeh?

what i noticed is that it has the new steering wheel controls on it. this is also true for the new golf gti.
it too has the new steering wheel buttons.
what i was wondering is if both the rocco and the golf 6 share the same rns510 unit, both sets of steering wheel controls must be compatible with it right?

it can't be as easy as swapping the two wheels over, it never is. i would expect some vagcom editing but what else would need to be changed?

btw i am aware that a lot of you dont like the new style wheel... each to their own and all that but imho it is definatly better. also more button so also more functional.

I was asking someone on another forum about the new steering wheel buttons and he put up a picture to explain what they all do. To be honest it didn't sound like they offer any more than the current wheel, just has more buttons you can press to do the same things.

i prefer the new wheel tbh. i think it looks a lot more modern and is a progression of the old one.
how would you go about swapping the old wheel out for the new one and getting all the functionality to work?

candymonster - yeh i noticed all these bits too! they look much better than the standard matte black blastic.
one of my first projects when the car comes is to get the internal trim bits resprayed in piano (ebony) black.

i woul be veru interested to see how yours turn out!

I think this thread is about steering wheels rather than wheel wheels... however I do have to say I've always loved those alloys... & they are the only thing I like about the Golf (which to me is just a slab-sided shoebox with all the sexual allure of Anne Widdecombe's belly warmers)
