Hi guys.
I currently own a scirocco GT tdi (140ps).
I'm looking to move up to the R, however looking at the specs of the GT tsi i was wondering if the R is actually worth all the extra expense just for the extra second to 60?
Also looking into the DSG gearbox, can anyone tell me whether or not they are actually any good? I dont know if i like the idea of not having a clutch to control myself. What are the pros and cons basically

Dsg is 'the future' end of. The R is the one to go for, just for the K04 turbo which is one of the best ever.

Dsg is the future !? to you it might be but to many its far from that !
Having driven both the TSI and the R i would say it feels like more than just a second quicker and for me personally i would only go for the R.
But as your coming from a diesel can you take the extra running costs ?
You will have to drive both and see what you think and way up the pro's and cons of both.
I signed for an R about 3 days ago so it should be here by the end of March - mid April hopefully
So im glad that you have said that there is a noticeable difference between the R and the GT adam >.<
Running costs wise, yes the reason im switching is because i used to about 3000 miles a month ... i now do less then 1000 per month ... so i thought im now in a position to get a car with a bit more grunt
luckily my insurance doesnt change at all really, its just the tax that im lead to beleive will go up dramatically, but it will be soooooo worth it
Im currently in the same position you was, i have a 140 tdi gt and would love to upgrade to the R.
Checked with the insurance and it would only be £6.00 extra each month!
But just got to think about the fuel costs, I dont do that much mileage only putting £20.00 a week in, so with an R I would expect that to double to £40.00?
Also if you dont mind me asking did you get a good price for your 140?
I get on average 35mpg doing 100kms per day with around 50/50 of motorway and traffic. It can be pretty frugal if you go easy on the loud pedal.
DSG helps I believe, it seems he'll bent on getting into 6th gear before you've even set off so the revs are usually kept below 4000.
My gt 140 im afraid i got offered an appalling price for part ex, they offered me 12 grand, she's only a year and a half old and done 30k miles, and considering i paid 25 grand for her in the first place i was a bit shocked.
and 35mpg in the R James? thats sounds absolutely amazing, i was going to be expecting 25 or less. I opted for the DSG box so hopefully that will help me be a bit for frugal on the average day ... but we all know how hard that can be

Had my DSG R a year next month, I use it mainly for town driving with a few 50mph roads thrown in and I get around about 27 - 29mpg depending how I drive it...
Best i've had is 33 mpg after filling up and doing a motorway journey.
Costs around £65 to fill it up (I fill up when trip computer says 50 miles to empty) and I fill up on average 3 times a month.
Just had my Tax come through and its £250 per year, I was expecting more.
