Re: NEW INLET MANIFOLD AT 35000 miles
Here is a quote from another thread. There are issues with the flaps that are not unknown! I should contact VW customer service if serviced by VW dealer or get the dealer to contact them. Some good will ought to be forthcoming with that mileage.Got this on Friday 31 Aug, 10 days before the warranty expired!!
Engine light came on less than 2 miles after picking up the car from 1st MoT & brake fluid change, so I turned round and took it straight back! After they plugged it in to the diagnostic machine, the "Service Assistant" said "something has fried itself in the intake". WTF! says I. Best you fix it then.
Anyway, got the call today that the car was ready, and being of a mechanical inquiring-type, I asked what the fault code was and what they had done. The "Service Assistant" started reading the worksheet out to me!! New inlet manifold & injector seals. Eventually, I got through to him that I would like to know the code spat out by the diagnostics - "it should be on the worksheet somewhere", I said. He wandered off and came back with P2015.
RossTech wiki = 18447/P2015/008213 - Intake Manifold Flap Position Sensor (Bank 1): Implausible Signal
and here I am. A common fault, it would seem. Would have cost me 277 + VAT for the manifold, 5 each for the 4 injector seals and 4 hours labour. Ouch!

Re: NEW INLET MANIFOLD AT 35000 miles
My inlet manifold had to be replaced at less than 40k but I had just bought the car second hand so it was still under warranty luckily. It is a common problem that VW have ignored and not done a recall as it would cost them millions. I was told by VW that the new replacement manifold fitted is a redesigned part to overcome the problem from happening again

Re: NEW INLET MANIFOLD AT 35000 miles
Hey quick question, my Rocco went in yesterday with same fault code as you've mentioned, the mechanic explained it was the manifold arm that had come away leaving the flaps stuck open, he showed me that he has fixed it permanently to the body to remedy this meaning the flaps remain permanently open...(this is my understanding). He assures me that this wont cause any problems...it may eventually need repair but he thinks it will be fine,...don't want to run the car inadvertently creating more damage through the manifold flaps not functioning as designed! Any thoughts??

Yeh I've done this before but eventually the sensor goes faulty which then requires the whole manifold to be replaced :-/beaso33 wrote:Hey quick question, my Rocco went in yesterday with same fault code as you've mentioned, the mechanic explained it was the manifold arm that had come away leaving the flaps stuck open, he showed me that he has fixed it permanently to the body to remedy this meaning the flaps remain permanently open...(this is my understanding). It's there for a reason so you need to get it fixed. Although I didn't buy my car from VW they paid for the part (and new injectors) and I just had to pay for labour at between £220-£250 (can't quite remember which). Excellent service from Boston VW by the waybeaso33 wrote:Hey quick question, my Rocco went in yesterday with same fault code as you've mentioned, the mechanic explained it was the manifold arm that had come away leaving the flaps stuck open, he showed me that he has fixed it permanently to the body to remedy this meaning the flaps remain permanently open...(this is my understanding).
