Re: Starting to feel too old for my Scirocco
I just had a nasty surprise with my insurance. Being 54 with a perfect record I only pay £270 for my Roc. I just moved house from somewhere where I had to park it on a very busy street 40 yards from a busy pub to a house in a very secluded part of a nice estate in the same town. It's now parked on my drive next to a street light and I'm in a 'close within a close' of only 7 houses. My insurance went up 20%. Work that one out!

Re: Starting to feel too old for my Scirocco
You know, that never fails to baffle me! I had a similar issue when I moved from a busy street with cars parked both sides of the road to a house with a drive about 1 mile away... I got quoted almost 30% higher.Billc wrote:I just had a nasty surprise with my insurance. Being 54 with a perfect record I only pay £270 for my Roc. I think they base it on claims/area, doesnt matter if the claim is for accidents or damage or theft... Even with that, I still don't know how they work it out!

Re: Starting to feel too old for my Scirocco
Well I'm 62 and love my Roc. But, but my arthritis is telling me to get something easier to get in and out of. So it is with great regret that I'm parting with the Roc. Soon there will be an Audi Q3 177 tdi quattro Stronic on the drive.

I know what you mean about the arthritis, I'm the same age with similar condition. I'll keep going with it as long as I can. Out of interest I see you are going from a 170 to the audi 177, have you test driven it and if so, what is the difference? I like the look of the Q 3

Re: Starting to feel too old for my Scirocco
Took a Q3 with a 140 tdi engine out to see how the car behaved, it was a 2 wheel drive version. I was very impressed. Quality cabin which is extremely easy to get in and out of. Standard seats on the SE are comfortable but lack good lateral support, plenty of adjustment to the seats and steering wheel made it extremely easy to get the perfect driving position. The manual box was quite slick and positive. Very quiet on the road and body roll is well controlled.Terryrussell1952 wrote:I know what you mean about the arthritis, I'm the same age with similar condition. However, because we were really interested in the Quattro 177 with the auto box Cardiff Audi managed to get one for me to test yesterday. It was pouring down, on country roads the Quattro felt really planted to the road and immediately gave me confidence to push on. On the M4 the ride was very good much quieter than a Roc and all in all a very good drive indeed. With a 7 speed DSG poking the loud pedal dropped to the box a gear and then it just took off, makes for a very safe overtaking, just as with the Roc and just as confidentally as when driving the Roc.
Got back from the test drive and decided to order, could be a 5 month wait, my lease on the Roc finishes in mid June. Ordered sport seats which has electrical lumbar support, standard seats do not have lumbar, and better latteral support. You could spend thousands specing up a Q3 but unfortunately my pockets aren't that deep and I must keep this car for at least 6 years.
I've enjoyed every mile in the Roc but my arthritis is getting worse and I've got to think of the future. Like me the Q3 could be the one for you.

Greatly appreciated for the reply, I'll give it a good look this week. Many thanks, lots of useful info
Re: Starting to feel too old for my Scirocco
They realised its a much better house and consequently figure you can easily afford 20% more!Billc wrote: It's now parked on my drive next to a street light and I'm in a 'close within a close' of only 7 houses. My insurance went up 20%. Work that one out!
Seriously - was that with the same company? - I find its very rare that its worthwhile staying with the same insurance company if you make a significant change such as the car or where you live (unless you are building up your no claims bonus then it makes sense to stick it out for the full year).

Re: Starting to feel too old for my Scirocco
Hilarious thread. I'm 42 and previously had a Leon Cupra R. Moving into a Roc R felt more like upping the game age wise, rather than lowering it. However the looks of the Roc make you feel younger because all of the sub 40 year all chicks dig it (something I'm sure is real). Now....if you had said you were driving a Prius and felt old then I would say you were right.
Its not like you should be driving a Phaeton or something.

Re: Starting to feel too old for my Scirocco
I've only just turned 24 with a 140tdi and my insurance was only £300. I didn't know the majority of rocco owners were older, ive had 3 audi a3s previous to buying the rocco in December and every time I have walked in to the audi garage with my mum or dad I was always ignored and had the sales person always look to my mum or dad being the customer, but walking in to the Volkswagen garage with my mum or dad I actually feel like a customer.

That's very good, I'm 36 and paid £304 on my 2.0 TSi GT. Recently found out my car has has a tracker by its previous owner and I'm in the process of finding out if it's still in the car and if it is that a few more quid of my insurance!jord wrote:im waiting for my Rocco to be delivered and i just ran an insurance quote. £247.47.
