Why are VW dealers so rubbish?
I have bought/owned a lot of cars from various dealers, mostly Honda and BMW.
I have never spent as much money as I have on my Scirocco and I really love the car, but it is badly let down by the most shockingly poor dealers I have come across.
I had a nightmare with the dealer mucking me around while buying the car, then nicking my roadtax on my P/X the aftersales is just as bad. I went in 3 weeks ago about the "I" badge from TSI comming loose, I hadn't heard anything back so just phoned them up. They checked and the part had arrived (just not bothered to tell me) they want to remove the whole badge and not just replace the totally seperate I. I am not happy with this and don't see why just the I can't just be replaced, I know its a small thing but I don't really want some kid at the dealership ripping bits off my car with a screwdriver.
To sum up after a heated conversation I am buying the badge and fitting the I myself for £12.50....... Honestly after spending over 20k on a car I am discusted with them and long for the days of my Honda dealers service...............
I am spending this PM ripping all their stupid stickers out my windows

I told them from the beginning I didn't want any dealer stickers on my car, I even took out the road tax display.adamj wrote:I am spending this PM ripping all their stupid stickers out my windows
To be honest mate, I've only found something like 1 out of 5 garages that were helpful up here in Scotland, the rest I walked out as no one bothered to come talk to me. I went back a few weeks later, one sales guy said why didn't you buy from us? I blatantly said your service here is non-existent.
Dude but seriously, phone up VW Customer Service UK and complain about that dealership that will get their fingers out.
Have you had any issues with the wipers yet?

just to let you know, a plastic spreader is used, then a "caramel" wheel is used to remove the glue. The reason the "i" cannot be replaced on its own is because if the rest of the lettering starts to come of then there at fault again, so really there just being safe and covering there backs.adamj wrote: I am not happy with this and don't see why just the I can't just be replaced, I know its a small thing but I don't really want some kid at the dealership ripping bits off my car with a screwdriver.

To be fair when I got to the dealers they did give me the badge for free, infact they offered to fit the I but I just took the badge as I would rather do it myself. So they have earned some points back.
In terms of the wipers, I had a really bad smear like others have reported I had the drivers side wiper replaced and it is much better but the smear is still visable. I am going to give the screen a good clean especially the bit where the wiper sits. What am I best to use?

He's not a salesman but your right he does work for VW, I'll let him tell you where but they have the largest bodywork centre in the UK, or so I was told by the salesman when I bought my car from them.

I agree. My local VW dealer ( Lightcliffe Motors Shelf Halifax) is rubbish. I've had many new cars and you cannot beat Honda for service and friendliness. But i do luv my Scirocco.

In my (what seems to be atypical) experience I disagree - My local dealer (Helston VW) has been fantastic - nothing too much trouble - a lot of this due to the proactive nature of my sales exec Mark and the Service dept guys.

Like Bagwafu, I am also pleased with my dealer - Carrs at Indian Queens. Even though my faults have been dealt with by two separate garages (I work at the other end of the country), the guys at Carrs are much better to deal with.

Re: Why are VW dealers so rubbish?
They can be poles apart, there are two in Newcastle, one at silverlink, and one on Scotswood road, when i took my car in for service at Silverlink, my mate was running me back, we were overtaken by my car doing 90+!!
When i went in too collect, and remonstrated with the service manger he at first tried to deny it, then when he realised there were hardly any White GTI's on the road was very appologetic,..never went back
When i went to Scotswood Road, dealer was a dream, best service i ever had, proper valet afterwards, and the staff are genuinely helpfull.

Re: Why are VW dealers so rubbish?
Im sure that dealers are not deliberate in there bad service - you can find the same in any Asda or Tesco. However - Ive had three brand new VW's over the years and from 2 different dealers. Both were very good (Capitol in Merthyr Tydfill and trust in Stourbridge for my Roc) and although I have had a few gremlins with the cars - the dealers have always wanted to resolve them. My car is booked in at Trust in 3 weeks for new rear window panels and wiper blades / arms even after 8000 miles and are still doing it all under warranty.

What do you mean by 'rear window panels' and what's wrong with them?BlackRoc wrote:My car is booked in at Trust in 3 weeks for new rear window panels and wiper blades / arms even after 8000 miles and are still doing it all under warranty.

Re: Why are VW dealers so rubbish?
Heavymetalmayhem - I have a problem with my radio reception. Sometimes it is great - othertimes it is like being in the 60's! Having paid a stupid ammount to have the sat nav / radio system- I wasnt happy with that, so I have been trying to get it sorted for a while. Turns out that the radio aeriel fillaments are embedded in the glass rear windows - it is these that are damaged. The dealer has taken pics and sent it to VW in Germany to show them and it is all being repaired under warranty in a few weeks as thats the next available slot for courtesy cars. Hopefully that should be the end of that!
