Scirocco Air Con settings
Dear all,
Why is it that every morning when i turn the air-con speed knob, the fan speed will increase from one bar to 3-4 bar and also i observe that the a/c button does not switch on by itself?
It doesnt only happen when i leave the car overnight and start in the morning but also at intervals of maybe 4-6 hours too.
Is this normal?

To answer your first question - I believe the fan's speed increases/decreses to regulate the temperature in the cabin

Did you also observe if the outside temperature was below 4ºC (~40ºF) at the time that happened ?arsenalrox wrote:......... also i observe that the a/c button does not switch on by itself?
Usually most cars have a design feature to prevent that the A/C will not come on below 3º or 4ºC, in order to avoid freezing of the evaporator.

Even if you've got the temperature turned up?

Air con is used for cooling and dehumidifying not heating.roccopanda wrote:Even if you've got the temperature turned up?
Although it does deselect at low temperatures, I can't recall ever seeing the LED on the switch go off.

You wouldn't ask the system to blow out cold air when the outside air temp is lower than +3 degrees anyway which is probably why you haven't seen the light go off.
I guess you can still use the A/C with the temp set warm when outside temps are very low? Actually. . . I'm pretty sure I have!!

On my previous cars, if the air con compressor deselected below 4 degrees the indicator would go out to reflect it not being available.Gray170TDI wrote:You wouldn't ask the system to blow out cold air when the outside air temp is lower than +3 degrees anyway which is probably why you haven't seen the light go off.

I just have have air con selected all the time anyway and let it make it's own mind up when it needs to use it. Also, as you say in another thread, it prevents the seals drying out and bacteria build up due to lack of use.

Yeah absolutely re: in particular dehumidifying. I wondered why the light never went out though - I had assumed if you have a high temp set inside the car it would still come on. I guess the light just stays on then regardless.Cuprabob wrote:Air con is used for cooling and dehumidifying not heating.roccopanda wrote:Even if you've got the temperature turned up?

Re: Scirocco Air Con settings
The Sciroccos air con is pretty pathetic in temperature selection!
There is no difference in temperature between the lowest setting and 25 deg, only when you hit the 25 deg selection does the the temperature start to change, all it does is alter the fan speed to control temperature.
I mentioned this at the last service and the head engineer said "we know".
Temperature control can be quite useful over here, it only goes down to around 9'C in winter but you certainly need some sort of temperature regulation as the summer heat starts to build.

RS5, Scirocco R. You can never have enough R's
Re: Scirocco Air Con settings
Some of you might be forgetting the auxilliary heater built in to many TDI's - its selected by use of the a/c switch (yes I know its confusing but that the way it is).
For me, in winter, standard procedure is to select a/c on straight away when I satrt the car which engages the electric heater circuit and warm the cabin up rapidly.

I've been happy with the dual zone climate temp control. I can feel the difference between say 20 and 23 (two main temperatures I use).
Heated seats are incredible for the winter though. Love them.
