New version advice?

Guys,
I know this topic may have been covered elsewhere, but I cant find the answer im looking for..

Basically, I placed my order for the Scirocco at the end of Feb, and have a build week of 17.
I hear that the rumours for the new version are true, and that production will begin around the week 20 mark. I called VW and asked them about the new version, but they denied all knowledge.
Now, when my motor arrives, a new version will be released within a few weeks, rendering my car 'old' already! Obviously I wont be happy as im sure it will have an effect on the depreciation.
What do you think I should do, or do I have any rights? Im thinking of visiting the dealer this week and telling them to put in writing that theere isnt a new version coming out (as thats what they told me on the phone)
Im not going to cancel my order for the sake of a newer steering wheels or different coloured dash lights, but I may try my luck in getting a discount or retro fit parts should the new one be released and on the road within a few weeks of mine being delivered....any thoughts??

I can understand how you feel, I ordered mine yesterday and am hoping to receive the "updated" items.

Sadly, I don't think you'll be successful, either in retro fitting, or a discount.

To look at the flip side - if they announced a price rise while yours was still in the build process, you wouldn't expect the dealer to come after you for more money.

I say just enjoy the car, I think the difference in depreciation will be negligable anyway, unless you plan to sell quite quickly.

Good point regarding the price rise.
I managed to order mine just before the rise, so got my car as specced on my profile for just under 21k...
I guess I might just live with the older steering wheel instead

Maybe the price rise was timed to coincide with the first orders for the new version. Just a thought...

Apparantly the same steering wheel as the Golf MK6 (which in my opinion looks much nicer) and white lights on the dash instead of red. The 2 mentioned there are 'confirmed', anything else is still a rumour at the moment..

I personally think the new MkVI steering wheel looks awful. Each to their own though and the white display would be nice.

It's not really something to get ones knickers in a twist about then is it? Would anyone genuinely push back when they get their car just for a couple of small bits and bobs?

I wouldnt cancel the order because of that, but my point was do you think I could get a discount or even get VW to retrofit the parts. Just from my own point of view I would think that my new Scirocco will be 'old' after a few weeks of arriving.

Basically Samir I think you are going to get the car you ordered. So in the circumstances I can't see any way you can make a complaint to your dealer.
Whereas myself, if what you say about changes after build week 20 is correct - then I am not going to get the car I ordered as I have just been given a week 22 build date for mine today.
And in any event isn't there always a clause in the contract about them being allowed to change specifications and make continual improvements ?

Having been in the early owner category (2 Nov 08) I have read and heard about imminent upgrades and changes for months and IMHO opinion this is a non issue. Like buying a new slaptop there will always be something newer coming to the market - I believe that somebody once called this "progress"

Buy your Roc tomorrow, this week, next month or even next year it makes no odds as there will always be newer versions and ugrades as time passes - unless of course it's the next corrado!! - If you want one buy one and enjoy the experience and put the "what if" button on hold!

If you do buy one and there is an upgrade you feel you need, then there is enough support and advice from "professional" pimpers on the forum to guide you through the process.

Get off the fence, get behind the wheel and enjoy.

i understand what your saying and as LCM put it "its called progress"
in truth you could sit and wait forever hoping to get the latest spec only to find that they change it a few months later.
Personally, yeah the new bits would be nice but do you know what, when people stop and look at your car, they are not looking the steering wheel or the dash lights, they are looking at the car as a whole. Most important of all when you get behind the wheel you wont be thinking about those minor cosmetic upgrades as the smile the car puts on your face when you floor it!!!!!!!!

As much as we can all guess what they'd change on a new version it is only a model year update and not a full facelift we're talking about. I therefore can't see the changes being that significant.

I had a moan on here before about the new steering wheel and white Highline computer not being on the car from the start, but having had the car for a month I quite like the steering wheel and don't mind the red display.

In fact the only two things I'd be keen to change are the stupid blue temperature display and the cupholders not having a cover on them.

You really are buying the car based on what you see in the showroom, a stylish, quick, comfortable, reliable and practical coupe.

A couple of minor changes are unlikely to make much difference in the long run. There probably wont even be many people (not on forums like this ) who will spot the difference in a few years time if you decide to sell.

A more serious dilema for those of us in the ordering process now is when you expect to take delivery. My build week (19) puts delivery sometime in mid-late June.

If you are being given a build of week 22, does this not mean you delivery date might be sometime in July? I had expected to take delivery of a correctly spec'd stock car in March.

You have to consider that some new buyers may take delivery of their shiny new '09' plate, just before the change to '59' .....



PS on the subject of air con control colour, how about a challenge to the clever people? What I'd like is a dial which is blue from say min-18, white from 18.5-21.5 and red beyond that!

My dealer rang me yesterday to tell me I had build week 22 which was around mid May. On that basis he expected to have me sat in my Roc mid to late June. Which is a week or so earlier than his original projection of 30 June.
I see you have ordered a diesel - maybe that make a difference.
Ah well, all we can do is wait and see.
