Yes it is the RCD510.

I assume you are connecting the iPhone 4s with the correct cable to the MDI in the armrest? Has it ever worked?

Some additional info. would be helpful

apologies Cuprabob. :)

Yes I do indeed have the correct connector that is in the armrest ( the ipod one ) and no it has never worked for me.
Just says 'no media connected'
The phone is fully updated and the cable charges my phone but will not connect it...

You haven't got the phone connected using Bluetooth at the same time have you?

Have you tried using USB cable and a memory stick with media on it to see if that works.

Sorry, I'm not up to speed with Apple stuff as I play music off my phone (Android) over Bluetooth and use a USB memory stick in the MDI.

But with the information provided, someone more knowledgeable than me should be able to help you.

Not sure about a RCD510 update but I would reset phone and try again or find another phone to check if that's the problem.
Still going strong =)

Tony,

For what it's worth...I've always had major problems with my iPhone too (an iPhone4 - I realise you have a 4S but same ballpark anyway). Have always had the same connection problems you mentioned (and identical 'error' message).

I spent a while getting bounced around VW customer support (great way to waste a few hours/days/weeks if you're ever bored), and checked it into local VW dealer as well. The dealer couldn't replicate the problem, said it worked fine for their technicians (tested with iPhone4S).

I've tried re-setting the phone, trying every combination of phone and RCD-510 settings I can think of, changed cable...nothing. I've resorted to using my old iPod, but even that isn't recognised by the RCD-510 sometimes (though I suspect that probably due to the iPod being incredibly old/worn connectors). The iPhone4 hasn't successfully connected since the day I bought the Scirocco.

Some users on here have had the same problem...others say it works fine. Doesn't seem to be a definitive explanation for the discrepancy, at least I've never seen one offered.

Are you definitely using the dedicated mdi iPod cable or are you using a mdi USB with the USB iPod cable that you would use to connect to the pc? If your using the latter it won't work.
