Dont think so, as I have the same semi-circular hole.

Noticed it when I was under the car fitting my dogbone mount.

I checked a few other pics online and it seams to be part of the casting, I would assume it's there for a reason. Someone might have a full explanation.

Hope that eases your worries.

Cool, thanks.

I would guess the semi-circular hole is there as drainage. That oil around made my worry. Where would it come from? I'd guess its the main crankshaft seal (what is it called?) that is leaking a little and getting in to that area where there shouldn't be any oil but gets drained by the small-circular hole.

As you said, someone might have a full explanation :D
