Getting time for a change
Well after 4 very happy years with the Scirocco (or Sid as its affectionately called), its time to start thinking about its replacement, although I am seriously considering trading in the wife's Astra and keeping Sid to replace it as the finance company only want £7500 to buy it which isn't a bad deal.
What I can replace the Scirocco with I'm not sure yet, I considered another one as its been a fantastic car but don't really want the same car again for another 3-4 years, just thought I'd run it past you guys to see what you think, here's my short list, or any other suggestions would be appreciated.
BMW M135i or 125d (head or heart decision)
Renaultsport Megane
Ford Focus ST
Mercedes A Class (not the A45 AMG, bit to expensive)
The M135i is my first choice out of these, if anyone has driven one let me know what it was like, read some really good reviews.
Cheers
Martyn

Always buy what you feel is you, anything else will always be second best. I will be leasing another scirocco next July, because it just ticks all the boxes, for both my wife and me.

Re: Getting time for a change
The MK7 Golf is a really nice car but it would be hard to resist the M135i, although I would wait for the M235i which is the coupe variant.

I'm waiting on a MK7 GTI after owning two Sciroccos but the lead times are nuts. I ordered in March and the cars still not built.

Similar situation - order for GTD officially accepted by VW on 29th March, confirmed build for w/c 12th August. If it is here for first week in Sept it will have been a 23 week wait. My dad ordered 5 days after me at same dealership and received his DSG on 1st July (12 week wait)!scirocco wrote:I'm waiting on a MK7 GTI after owning two Sciroccos but the lead times are nuts. There are a few would-be GTIers that have given up waiting (still unconfirmed for build) and have put in orders for M135i which will be fulfilled in approx 8 weeks. Great performance if you can live with the looks.

Hi maisbitt
Can't believe those waiting times for the golf GTD!! No wonder people are looking at the BMW, thanks for the lead time info for the BMW saved me job ringing the dealer to find out. In regards to the looks I used to have the original 120d before the Scirocco and liked the looks of that but I think this one is much better looking especially the 3dr. I ordered a back issue of Autocar from November last year when they did the full road test, just been looking through the in-gear acceleration numbers, absolutely phenomenal should be a real road weapon, the more I think about it the more I want it, pretty sure my minds made up, thanks to all who replied to my post.

Re: Getting time for a change
Thanks dimexi, I think its the way I will go, my only concern would be the fuel economy, coming from a diesel where i'm enjoying 45mpg in everyday driving, would you mind asking your colleague what economy he is getting from his?

Before Engine run in - it was as poor as 25mpg on his commute. I suspect it's improved now, but will drop him an email and let you know

Re: Getting time for a change
Got News back!! My colleague says his average consumption is 36mpg - and includes regular "blasts" (this guy isn't light footed at all ).
I reckon that's quite good!! He does to 140miles a day though.
Hope this helps.

Re: Getting time for a change
Yeh I have to agree with the comments above. If you can budget a m135i then it's a no brainer.

Re: Getting time for a change
Hi skyblues11
I did also consider the Alfa as its a great looking car, in regards to the Evoque, it's not really for me although my wife's loves them and I have considered passing the Scirocco onto her then trading it in for one or maybe a Q3 in a few months time
Cheers for the suggestions
