Delivery in Paris ! Finally my 1.4 TSI DSG 7 !!

Post by bonar »

Hello all,

So i went to pick up my 1.4 TSI DSG 7 reflex silver this afternoon ! It was a beautiful day in Paris. I didn't have much time to drive the car though. My first impression is that it's incredibly smooth and so far i don't regret having gone for the DSG box.

Looking forward to playing with the paddles on a good road and will write more about it. Here are some (quite crappy) pics. They have been taken in a parking lot so...But more in the daylight are coming.

Cheers !

Don't apologise for your pics - I really like the second one. The flare off the lights looks good.

Hi all

There will soon be another one :)

I'm also in France (Ex Pat) & I ordered my Scirocco on 21st March, delivery date 20th July !!!

Nice choice bonar,
I've ordered a 1.4 TSI DSG7 Carat -
Reflex Silver, Black Vienna, Sat Nav, DCC, Parking sensors etc. Kept the 17" Donningtons, I actually prefer them to the Interlagos

I test drove a Scirocco 1.4 TSI a couple of times with a manual box & I tried a DSG on a Seat, Loved them both separately, so together they should be pretty good

Oh well just 3 1/2 months to go !

Hi guys,

I was able to drive the car from Paris to Antwerpen recently and i must say that all in all i'm very pleased. I chose DSG because of its versatility : when you feel like playing, you put it on manual mode and enjoy the paddles and when you're stuck in traffic (unfortunately quite often here in Paris) you smoothly cruise in D.

I have always been a manual fan, my previous car was a Mini Cooper and i loved the handling and the slick gearbox. I decided to go for a DSG because i read here and there that it was incomparable with conventional (torque converter types) automatic gearboxes. Having driven many automatic cars in the past and now mine, i must confirm that DSG is something else. Smooth AND lightning fast.

I also read that the manual unit was very pleasant to manipulate (which i'm pretty sure of) but a little "long" in 4,5 and 6. I'm sure i would have loved the car in manual also but it was time (for me) for some change and i certainly don't regret it !

Nobby, congratulations on your choice, very good one plus a nice list of options ! I regret not having gone for the SatNav :(

And uh, watch out for idiots who don't know how to park in Paris. The bumpers are very exposed on the car and some stupid one dented my rear one a little bit, it's getting fixed next week but still really pissed me off.

Cheers all !

Some pics related to the gearbox :)

I remeber seeing a Lexus with 7 gears on top gear, they didn't like the fact it just seemed to constantly be changing gear

I still don't understand why the numbers go backwards.

I would also have liked a bigger display showing the gear number as an option in the middle of the highline screen.

Kev,

I have to agree with you on both your points. The size of the gear numbers is the main problem to me.

Otherwise about the constant gear changes, i have to say that i don't feel that way at all, perhaps in D position. In S position, the gear changing logic is quite clever and manually (obviously) the problem doesn't exist. I think the gears from 1 to 6 are a little closer from each other (and a little shorter) than on the manual unit and the 7th gear is really for cruising and improve fuel consumption. In short, you would drive the car like the manual with a little extra push on each gear and an extra gear for cruising.

Cheers.

Hi guys,
officially VW is claiming that the DSG-7 has a limitation of around 25Nm of torque is that 100% true? I am interested in buying the 1.4tsi with the DSG-7 but want to upgrade the engine to 200bhp and 29Nm of torque approximately.
Is that possible and most importantly ''problem free'' ?
Thanks

How does it work? I tried to follow the roccopedia instructions but all I get is the car struggling against the brakes and the engine at less than 1000 rpm.. Am I missing something?

you just put the car in sport...turn off esp, put one foot on brake and accelarate at same time! The engine will rev to about 3000 revs and hold there....then just release the brake and hang on :eyepop:

Hello,

Are you saying that it works on your 1.4? I am very interested to know since I've not heard of LC working on the 7-speed DSG.
