Grinding when braking???

Post by christian_VW »

Hi there,
The issue is that when i brake there is a grinding sort of noise from the rear brakes :/, it sounds pretty bad under hard braking. Ive checked the brake pads and theyre fine ( standard pads not sure if theyre the cause) and the discs dont loon too bad either no bad grooves etc..
Anyine had an issue with this before??
Thanks chris, its a 2010 1.4 t 122.

Mine does this after sitting for a couple of days. Just the pads removing the rust from the surface of the disc. Nothing to worry about.

I had this on my Golf & the dealer reckoned it was the discs that were badly scored. New discs fitted = problem sorted. Seems like you've already checked yours though..

Thanks for the replies everyone, im starting to get a whirring noise now on the motorway from rear end so may be warped discs or sounds like hub bearing failure will be getting it into vw to see what the useless (i mean useful) mechanics can sort out.

Cheers

What was the outcome?

I've got something that sounds similar. Would any of the above be covered under warranty?

30000 mate, seems bit premature but they reckoned they were binding slightly too! So calipers have been greased on the pistons to hopefully prevent that! Hope you sort it mate on the plus side im moving to audi :D!
