Tyre wear
What sort of mileage do people typically get from front tyres?
Had 2 x sport contact 5s fitted 9500 miles ago and they are at the wear bars already and needing replaced?
Is this normal.
Car is a 2.0 tsi gt
Thanks

Re: Tyre wear
I'm still on my original P Zeros at just over 35k miles. Mainly motorway miles but even I'm surprised how long they have lasted. Keep checking them every weekend, as I've never seen more than 25k on any front tyres before on any car I've owned. There is more pronounced wear in the centre but currently at 2.5mm at the lowest point. Got a new set ready to go on when it gets to 2mm.
I should add that I'm a very smooth driver

Re: Tyre wear
What tyre pressure you running them at? If you do a search on here you'll find a lot of people have similar problems eased by lowering the recommended levels to about 32/33psi.

Re: Tyre wear
Ok. Thanks for that, will give it a try. Going to go with Michelin pilot sports next I think. Had a 3 series before and was getting 25k out of the rears on that

Re: Tyre wear
I had MOT today, and fronts still have 6mm left, these are the original tyres and have done 15K miles.

Looks as though you have a similar wear rate as myself about 6k per mmskippy wrote:I had MOT today, and fronts still have 6mm left, these are the original tyres and have done 15K miles.

Yes - I saw your earlier comment Cuprabob about smooth driving and I also have more of a Jenson Button style if you can put it that way. I tend to respect the tyres, not corner aggressively or spin the wheels on acceleration. Don't get me wrong, I like to drive the car in a 'spirited' fashion but I do look after it.

Re: Tyre wear
Yes, I've got a similar ethos.
My last car was an R32 and when I sold it at 84k miles, it still was on the original brake pafs and discs and there was still some life in them.
I wad a,bit nervous, with the Rocco when I saw it had P Zeros and,all that torque as my LCR came with P Zero Rossos and they only lasted 8k miles.

Re: Tyre wear
84k on original pads/discs! Now that must be a world record for an R32

Re: Tyre wear
Very true! Actually back on the tyre thread, just looked at my last years service check sheet and the fronts had 5mm of tread left (just under 12k on the clock). This year I have gained 1mm despite doing 3k miles - LOL!

Re: Tyre wear
Still on the first set of OE fitment Pirelli P7 Self Sealing - Approaching 17k miles.
Fronts still have over 5mm, rears about 4.5mm (were swapped fronts to rears at 12,000). Quite pleased really.

Re: Tyre wear
Saw an ADAC report on 2013 summer tyres and the P7s wear rate is very good but wet performance is not as good as some of the other tyres such as conti 5s and goodyear F1 assymetric 2. Suppose it depends what you rate as most important. Wet tyre performance seems important given weather over the last year although I have found the P7s generally OK in that respect just the odd twitch taking roundabouts at speed when very wet.
