Scirocco R DSG or manual

Post by J4m1e5 »

Hi, ive been looking for a while for a Scirocco R. I have found a nice example with 20,000 miles, DSG and leather seats for £20k. Had a test drive on Sat and it blew me away esp the DSG. My question is, is the DSG box worth getting over the manual, im aware of the faster gear changes etc, but is it a case of more things to go wrong? Ive also heard that remaps can damage the DSG box which would lean me more towards a straight manual?

Hope you guys can help me out.

To be honest, it all comes down to personal opinion which you prefer.

DSG is a great piece of kit but is complex and if it goes wrong it's expensive however on the plus side, it's normally the mechatronics unit and companies such as ECUTesting are now refurbing them for a few hundred quid. DSG also costs a little more to service as it requires an oil and filter change every 40k miles.

So is it a rumour that the DSG box cannit 'handle' the extra torque of a remap? When you say an oil and filter change, is there a seperate oil and filter for the DSG alone?

Thanks

Yes, the DSG has it's own oil and fipter and costs around £180 to he done at a dealer.

Plenty of remapped DSG cars around and Revo even offer updated software for the gearbox. There is a torwue limit on the box but a stage 1 or stage 2 map will be fine. Above that you are likely to get issues.

plenty of mapped dsg cars running without issue, plenty of manual cars with maps that now run up rated clutches
