Catch Can
Yo
Anyone got an opinion on whether something like the BSH catch can is required / a good idea for the R?
Is it even possible to fit? seems to be conflicting experiences with it. some people rate it and say it works, others seem to not be so sure its worth doing. there also seems to be a couple of different solutions to the problem.
some info from the GTI boys:

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index ... 753.0.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Thoughts / opinions?

I'll look into it in due course. The forge one did catch my eye over the BSH one.

Re: Catch Can
in the shell of a nut, and im no expert, the 2.0 TSI engine produces excess gases which are recycled into the engine which contains oil and other nasties. Over time this builds up as a horrible gunk, clogging your valves etc and generally being unpleasant.skippy wrote:Catch can??
the catch can essentially is a can which collects this gunk allowing clean, nice air back into the engine. you then occassionally dispose of said gunk at will, and have a cleaner, nicer, happier engine!
those links help explain it prob better than me!

Many thanks Strat for the explanation, have never heard that term before and I do generally know my cars - I think!

Re: Catch Can
Turns out Forge are no longer giving discounts to ANY forums.
Re: Catch Can
Ι bought the BSH Competition Catch can . Due to the charcoal canister, there is not enough room for the can to fit properly.
For the time being, it is temporarily fitted with a tie wrap in front of the charcoal canister.
Some other guys in the mkv forums have relocated the charcoal canister on the drivers side (LHD vehicles).
We are working on it. I think its not possible to delete the charcoal canister without the vehicle throwing a CEL.

Re: Catch Can
seems to be effective, I guess.
After driving ~5 miles with the catch can installed, there was an oil scent in the car, when I stopped at a red with the engine idling. According to BSH, this smell comes from the (liquid) catch can contents, whose smell finds its way out from the induction filter when the engine idles...

Re: Catch Can
Im pretty sure its effective. After driving ~220 miles, engine seems to rev better at least at low revs. Perhaps it has to do with more effective combustion, since oil fumes are removed from air-fuel mixture.Tsakonas wrote:seems to be effective, I guess.

Re: Catch Can
Whats the reason for you all wanting to fit a catch tank?
Also, im not sure if forge has revised there hose tank take off's but it previously was 8mm which caused alot of backpressure on the crank(not good)
