Hi there
Okay im having major ructions with VW Caffyns Eastbourne. I have had an issue every time I use them, without fail, but they are the only VW dealer within 30 miles and I need the VW stamp, so I have to use them before anyone suggests simply not using them.
Issue right now is this; car was serviced about 3 weeks ago, shortlife/10k, they put 5w40 in which i believe is the wrong oil, yes its 502 00, which is "suitable" but Im 100% sure that the 2.0 TSi best performing oil is 504/7 00 5w30, Im sure I read, either here or on Net, from someone in the know, that 5w30 is recommended, gives better performance, fuel economy and 5w40 is only necessary for hot climates or long service cycles.
Many Thanks
PS. Im aware some of the above info may be slightly askew due to my dodgy memory but the key thing I need to find out is if the above is true, and where its been stated.

As you don't say which VW50200 5w40 oil brand and product name they put in, can't comment other than 12 month service regime can use:
- VW50200
- 5w40
Oil Details Link
Don't see why there is an issue. And I don't think you would be able to tell a difference in driving performance for UK driving conditions.

Thanks for the reply. That's not what you claim in the thread I bumped though is it, in which I quote you claiming 5w30? So which is it.
Its not an issue I'm just sick of VW Caffyns always missing things, its unacceptable for the prices they charge, and image they try and portray and I'm not accepting it,anymore, pulling them on everything as they, have, had numerous chances to rectify the problems that are always repeated time and time again.
It no longer really matters thou, was hoping having dug up the relevant thread/post you would have VW stated proof of your claim, without it I can't argue anything so...

Like I stated, what oil brand and product name HAVE they put in?Wavy wrote:Thanks for the reply. That's not what you claim in the thread I bumped though is it, in which I quote you claiming 5w30? So which is it.
And the reference was to how dealers save on bulk purchase and VW50400/50700 standard. They can use it for both Longlife as intended but also 12 month servicing if they wish. Bulk purchasing allows them to bring down the price so no need for VW50200.
Your dealer has filled the engine with VW50200 oil which has different options available dependant upon brand and product line. So its down to which specific oil? Cos in some circumstances of certain VW50200 oils, 5w40 is perfectly acceptable to use.
12 month servicing for 4-cylinder TSI is VW50200 officially and the correct oil grade is 5w40. The correct grade when using VW50400/VW50700 is 5w30.
My guess without your detail information is that they have used fully synthetic Quantum Platinum SAE 5W-40 50200/50500/50501 oil - suitable for Petrol and Diesel vehicles on fixed service intervals requiring VW50200 standard and is an approved VW oil brand, product name and UK grade as also Europe.

502.00 5w/40 is perfectly fine to use on 10k intervals,no problem here.
