Buying Used Alloys

Post by Torrr »

Hey,

I'm new to all this so just wondering, anything I should look out for when buying used alloys to ensure they are genuine etc and good condition etc.?

Price seems good to be honest.

You can check if they are genuine by looking at the inside of the wheel for the VW part number.

Other than the cosmetic stuff there is not much more you can check unless you want to take them to a local fitter and put them on the balance machine to run them up and look for buckling.

Thank you! So as long as part numbers there and everything looks fine, I should be OK?

I would say so but obviously confirm the tyres are as described and not ditchfinders :-)

You have to be aware the wheels alone are circa £650 each from a dealer and a good 235/35 x 19 tyre is between £150 and £200 so the price is very good, bearing in mind they don't pop up very often.

Yeah that's why i'm a bit suspect. Guess I'll find out tomorrow what they're like in the flesh, thanks for all the help!

Reasonable tyres then, my R32 came from the factory with them and they were OK. I specced black Luganos from the factory and they came with Pirelli P Zeros, which are very good.

Good luck anyway :-)

When I picked my car up from dealer the manager was telling me and my dad how a set of alloys and Pirelli p zeros would cost £4000 for a set. That might not be a realistic price I don't know, but with that in mind the ones you have found seem to cheap to be genuine. eBay has many copy's but not genuines. Just my two pence ..

Unlikely reps would have new Dunlops on them. A few people don't like the Luganos and sell them on if they bought the car second hand. Also, if it's the wheels I'm thinking of the owner is Scottish so trustworthy :-D

Mine was a stock car and came specd with luganos and I love them, considering they are only £685 from factory order they are a lot cheaper than buying afterwards from dealers. What sort of price would you say new genuine luganos and pirelli p zeros would cost then? £4000 seemed a bit steep

£4k is a realistic price from a dealer. As I said earlier in the thread they are circa £650 plus vat each and I've just bought P Zeros for £150 each.

I seen a few sets sell for under £1k as I doubt many people would pay more. You would just buy a set of BBS alloyd.

Where did you get p zeros for £150? Dealer told me cheapest I would find a single tyre is £250, I said I'm sure could find it cheaper . Haven't even looked tbh

I got them from Camskill. The VW OEM ones have a K1 suffix. The price seems to vary a fair bit but I just watch and buy when it's lowest. In a 2 week period for the exact same tyre the price varied between £151 and £210.

Is it possible for them to be replicas even if they have part numbers/VW logos on the inside of the wheel? How else can I differentiate between replicas/genuine?

They look genuine to me but you need to see the part number stamped on the back. If you're not quick I'll jump in and uy them for a change from the black ones I have :-D

No problem mate. I actually quite like the Doningtons but I'm sure you'll find the ride slightly harder with the 19s
