Hi new to this forum, so do not know if i have posted this question in the right catagory, only had my scirroco a few days but can any body shed any light on to what the three switches are for up by the interior lights, one has a spanner on it, another has a star on it and the last one has the letter I on it. it is on a 2012 model GT. Sorry if this is a stupid question but they are baffling me as i have pressed them and they do not seem to be doing anything. Cannot find anything on them in the handbook. Cheers
Thanks for quick reply will have a read of manuel, but first will have to check if i have one, i thought the microphone button on steering wheel was for the voice commands, but that only mutes the system. Have issues with the rns510 at moment as the unit was fitted as an upgrade as part of deal when bought the car from dealer.Issues being have no voice commands and no sat nav display on the mfd screen. Awaiting reply from dealers techs of how to resolve these problems.
Hi yes i have just found out what the buttons are for in the mobile telephone operating manuel, poppoed into car to try the star button for voice command and it did nothing, i think it may be because the car originally had the RCD510 fitted and now i have the RNS510 and i dont think i have the microphone because when i press the star button on the radio itself, the unit asks me to give command but then says it does not understand.

I upgraded from the RCD 510 to the RNS 510 and have exactly the same issues as you do in that voice commands and MFD display does not work. I've tried asking people why this is the case and all i have been told up to now is that the car needs recoding so i'm hoping this does it but i dont know at this point what needs recoding and what values need changing.
As i have only owned the car for a few days, i have asked the deaker to sort out this problem, he is going to ask one of the "techs" in his workshop as to the answer to this problem so when he replys to me which i hope will be tommorow, i will relay to you the solutions to this problem.HOPEFULLY
None functioning voice control suggests the microphone hasn't been wired to the navigation unit. No navigation display in the centre MFD means the unit hasn't been coded. Does the sound generally appear distorted if you increase the volume?

That would be really helpful mate, look forward to hearing and hope you get yours sorted.

Thats generally what i've been told by a few people. The sound seems fine to be honest but i dont have anything to compare it to.
Update on no voice activation and mfd display, phoned dealer today and they told me their technician said it cannot be done, so dealer put call into volkswagen technical to see if they can offer any advice, awaiting their reply.

To be honest im not really botherd about voice commands as my previous 2 vehicles had this function BMW and Peugeot and found them both pretty useless and annoying. Found it quicker and more precise to use the old digits on hand method.Just as long as i can get the nav on the MFD i will be a happy bunny.
Sorting out voice control is fairly simple the dealer needs to rewire the console microphone to the nav unit and then wire from the nav unit to the bluetooth module. Factory bluetooth without nav has the microphone wired direct to the bluetooth unit, factory bluetooth + nav has to microphone wired to the nav unit.
VW don't have a retrofit lead kit to do this so the dealer would need to order up suitable cables and patch connectors on which they may not be comfortable doing. http://www.my-gti.com/1234/volkswagen-r ... ce-control
MFD display is just a matter of coding assumed they've used a compatible nav unit. Also are you getting visual parking guidance? To get the nav to show up using VCDS set bit 7 in the long coding helper "communication instrumentation cluster via operation and display protocol BAP". Older red dot dash's didn't need this.
