Bumper Scuff
I have noticed a scuff on the front bumper tonight (rising blue). It's about 2"x6" not very deep.
Has anybody had to have a repair like this before and if so, how much did it cost?
I'm tempted to use one of those mobile repair guys but was thinking i'd maybe be better getting it done at a dealers. Anybody used the mobile guys before?
Cheers

Re: Bumper Scuff
I have used a mobile one on my old focus before and my advice would b dont do it! I could still c the repair in certain lights and it bugged the hell out of me until the day I got rid. I say its worth spending that bit more and getting a proper job.

Even Chips Away repairs don't last and are variable in results. Especially metallic paint and getting matched.
Body shop and correct paint. Unfortunately not cheap.

Re: Bumper Scuff
I used a 'smart repair' touch up place that I'd heard good things of, but I guess the standards acceptable to me are above the person who recommended them - it was only a tiny mark and I wish I'd left it. Never again - my vote again goes to a proper body shop - but ask around locally, in my experience dealers aren't a patch on a specialist place, but even they vary.
In answer to your question it was £85 - I'd expect it to be £250ish at a proper place and well worth the difference.

Re: Bumper Scuff
Just back from the dealers and they quoted it at £175 compared to £125 from a mobile company. It's a no brainer, dealers it is.
Thanks for the info guys.

Re: Bumper Scuff
Dealers usually just pass it on to a body shop who does all their work. For any repairs, best to find a reputable body shop and see some of their work. Like anything, theres a mix of standards in the smart repairs.

Re: Bumper Scuff
Have you checked that they are doing a proper body shop repair not getting a smart repairer to site and charging you a premium for the privilege ! £125 seems mighty cheap for a body shop repair when you factor in hourly rates.gogzy01 wrote:Just back from the dealers and they quoted it at £125 compared to £80 from a mobile company. IF IT'S NOT BROKEN

The car is being repaired at a fully approved VW repair bodyshop which is used by the local dealer.
£35 per hour for labour and they have said it will take 4 hours
£35 for paint/lacquer

Did the "reverse scrape into a wall" job last autumn in the Golf estate. Insurance co. sent it to Solus, other side of Ipswich and we got them to do an old front bumper scrape at the same time. Abso wonderful job. Charged £85 for the front tho Hastings Direct paid for the rest. Can't tell it from new, silver grey metallic

Re: Bumper Scuff
I've scraped under the front bumper going over a speed bump too fast. You can't really see it but just the thought of it being there annoys me! I was thinking of sanding it down myself and spraying it with some reflex silver paint. Presumably this is a bad idea?
Upon closer inspection I noticed there's a plastic strip on the front bumper as well, underneath about 5 inches back. It had come unclipped and I just pushed it back in. It looks pretty flimsy, does anyone know what it's for?
Thanks guys!

No idea what it's for mate but I noticed mine was hanging off a couple of months back when I went up a ramp in a multistorey car park with a bit too much enthusiasm!
Just pulled it off and binned it to be honest.

LOL that's pretty funny. I'm in France on holiday and saw another Roc with the same issue. Scraped bottom front bumper and one side of the rubber clip hanging down. So seems pretty common.

Re: Bumper Scuff
You can see on here the repair job VW did on my rear bumper. Can't even see where the scrape was... Unfortunately they said a bracket was broken on the inside and made me buy a brand new bumper. So trying to flog this one now! Can't bring myself to just chuck it out, seems a waste. Do you reckon it can still be used?
