Goodyear universal wiper blades from Costco

Post by roscom »

Hi,

Has anyone successfully fitted these..? I (to the best of my knowledge) am using the correct connector, but there is a small (about 5mm) bit of metal sticking out the wiper arm that stops this connector fitting.

I started thinking this was a deliberate VW move to stop people buying universal blades, and forcing them to buy VW ones, because it doesn't server any other purpose that I can see. I thought about filing it off, and the connector would fit fine, but don't really want to in case I'm completely wrong here.

I've noticed another couple of posts recommending the Bosch Aerotwin blades. Before I ditch these Goodyear ones for Bosch ones, thought I'd ask the experts.

Any advice appreciated.

Euro Car parts have a 30% discount promotion running just now. I just bought a set of Valeo exact fit blades for just less than £15.

Valeo along with Bosch are one of the OEM suppliers to VW

Costco ones are not worth the hassle IMO.

That's good to know. I think I'll just have a look at those ones.

Thanks for the information re Valeo. I didn't know that.

I just purchased my Roc, the rear wiper was knackered, VW wanted £23 for the rear so I looked around, wasn't that successful until I went to my local spares shop who said they would match it up, well not exactly I just replaced the blade only costing £1.95 ha ha bargain, the end does come off & very easy to fit, just cut to fit.

Sorted lol

I don't know how you dealer got £23 for the rear wiper blade as my dealer charges circa. £8 for a genuine one. You can get a Bosch one for circa £12 on Amazon

Here is the link to the Valeo front set. If you reserve online and put in code midmonth30 you will get £6.39 (30%) off

all the wipers get knackered easily, especially the rear ones from my experience. I avoid using the rear as much as possible.

Return the Goodyears to Costco. Bought the same as you a year ago and had massive bother fitting them. I managed to bodge it in the end with 1 of teh many sets of adapters that came with the blades, but performance was crap and I had them straight back off. Go for the Bosch.

A genuine rear is £7.85 inc vat code W1K8 955 427 A. I know as I bought one last weekend. Genuine fronts are £36.46 for the pair which is somewhat expensive.
