Windows going half up then straight back down
As the title suggests, I've noticed when raising my windows (primarily the passenger side) from fully open it's going half up and then stopping and automatically lowering again. Try it again and it usually goes the full way up. Anyone experienced this or found a fix?

That's the safety feature, when there is resistance the window goes down to stop the window closing and catching someones arm etc
Check the rubber around the glass is not folded over etc

Cheers welsh rocco. I'll give that a check and see if it solves it.
Re: Windows going half up then straight back down
You may also want to try resetting the windows (Tells you how to in the manual)

Cheers. I'll try that if the problem persists.

Re: Windows going half up then straight back down
it seems all new VW Beetles have this issue...
Re: Windows going half up then straight back down
I don't think it's the same problem as the ignition switch one - this happens when the car is running other off and the windows are closed from fully open. They get half way up and then go back down. They always work though and on mine it mostly seems to be the passenger window. It's also been very rare for me - 3 times ever I think!silver130 wrote:My first Scirocco dd this. Re: Windows going half up then straight back down
I get an issue sometimes if I turn the ignition and straight away try and open a window, it just fails to respond. I have to turn the ignition off then back on. Weird.

I think that's normal. It takes a few seconds for the modules to reset after you switch on the ignition. I also find the same with the folding mirrors, you need to wait a little before folding them back out.wintercooled wrote:I get an issue sometimes if I turn the ignition and straight away try and open a window, it just fails to respond. The exact same thing happens to me all the time. I did the window reset once and that seemd to fix it, then it came back.RisingRoc wrote:As the title suggests, I've noticed when raising my windows (primarily the passenger side) from fully open it's going half up and then stopping and automatically lowering again. I just learned to ignore it...funny thing is, just yesterday it was fine
I heard somewhere, that there is a software update for the windows....again....

Re: Windows going half up then straight back down
The windows on my roc have become the bane of my life as they seem to have a mind of their own, from the half-close malfunction highlighted above to the 'dancing' on start-up when the rapidly jitter up and down a tiny amount until I switch off and switch on again, the failure of the passenger window to close fully after switch-on, switch-off and locking which resulted in the damn thing letting rain soak the passenger seat when parked by a valet parking firm at Gatwick airport. I must have tried the re-set 20 times at least and it has been to a VW dealer 4 times but every time although the problem is cured for a few days it soon reappears. I must say that I cannot fault the dealer, he has replaced control units, stripped both doors, replaced switches, replaced wiring, checked updates (all under warranty) and not once has he tried to deny responsibility, in fact it's become a bit of a joke between us. I've come to accept that the damn windows will never work as designed and have got into the habit of lowering the passenger window fully and raising it fully before I switch-off and lock it; only then will the passenger window close properly when I lock it. Other than that I love the car but the windows are a joke and it's certainly something that would stop me buying another.
Re: Windows going half up then straight back down
Our windows sometime do this.....everytime....if I clean the glass inside and out very well the problem goes.....as others have said the controller thinks there is something blocking the glass because of resistance and lowers it again.

Re: Windows going half up then straight back down
This seems like a common problem. This happened to me a couple of months ago. I switched off the car switched it on and it worked fine. Never happened again.

Re: Windows going half up then straight back down
Exact same thing happens to mine, but sporadically. Only happens on passenger window and is a bit embarrassing when I have passengers as it doesn't give a great impression! Not sure why they'd be resistance one minute and none the next. But will check the things mentioned above. Cheers.
Re: Windows going half up then straight back down
It's dirt in the runners, increases resistance on the motors which triggers the anti-crush sensor/motor.
Had both sets of runners cleaned out by the dealer, doesn't happen anymore.

Helps if you lubricate the seals and runners with Gummi Pfledge

Re: Windows going half up then straight back down
An upgrade in the door control maybe required by vw. They did with me and it worked till the following the window regulators wires snapped. Then they realised it was that which was the issue. Lucky I got it fix under warranty
