Third brake light flickering

Hi,

I have just noticed when parking in the garage that the third brake light is flickering, the other 2 lights seem fine but this is flickering on and off. I was wondering if anyone else has come across this.

The three lights (Left, centre & right) are driven separtely on individual wires from the Central Electrics controller. So would expect individual character of each bulb or the central LED bar.

As a quick check, open the tail gate fully and press the brake pedal. Does it still do it?
(Rough check for a damaged wire in the looms bridging the rear hatch electrics to the main car body. Damage through chaffing or stretching or continual flexing.)

If it still flickers, suspect the Central Electrics Controller has a fault with the center brake LED internal power supply circuit . Diagnostics may indicate.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I called the garage who said to pop in and someone will take a quick look. Just after I called I checked again and it's not flickering!! When it flickers it doesn't go off completely but just flickers between bright and dull. I suspect it's probably just a dodgy wire.

I think I will keep an eye on it and see how it goes, it's pretty easy to check as the car lives in a dark underground carpark.

The flickering brake light has been ok for a few weeks, then today got the "check third brake light" warning, popped into the dealers, the guy looked at it and said it was all good, car booked in for Monday for replacement third brake light unit. Then on my way back from the garage, after about ten minutes, the warning has cleared itself!!

Also has anyone noticed the brightness if the little green lighting on the rear view mirror go brighter and dimmer according to light outside, I have only started noticing this recently.
