How do you rate the sciroccos **INTERIOR** design?

Post by Danscirocco »

NOT A DOUBLE POST***

Just some conversation about the looks of the Roc cockpit and dash,.... and if you could improve where would it be?

Build quality aside (which is very good)I personally think the interior is its weakest point, its like most vw and theres no real/feel that your sitting in a scirocco. i think the interior needs a vast overhaul, vw need to think outside the box on this one, like they have with the nose of the car!
I do love the steering wheel , nothing is quite as good as the rocs wheel!!
What you guys think.

Any model?

VAG interiors are generally bland/generic but well thought out and intuitive to use. Not enough colour there (don't understand wanting to swap out silver trim for "R" black gloss and make the interior even blacker). Maybe grab handles and strips same colour as exterior would look good for some colours (would maybe look a bit charva-ish for some), or even a few more colourful seat options. Had an old Polo that had black seats with electric blue/black centre panels - would look great for most colour options (except maybe red and Viper.

I quite like the dash, simple but practical. The only thing i dont like is the hazard button, 'could it be any bigger' and the passanger air bag sign, it looks like something you would see in a van.

Just think it is a bit bland compared to the exterior. The R version not special enough and would of thought at least in R spec the car could have carried an extra couple of $k if the interior was a little less VW generic

Easily fixed with a £30ish spend, but why VW didn't have the sliding cup holder in the first place when it is present on the EOS built in the same factory is beyond me. Spares price difference between moulded cup holder and sliding cup holder is about £12, but it massively cheapens the interior to have the moulded one in.

Hated the interior, couldnt stand the cloth seats. Got leather, black dash and door grabs, dash trims carbon wrapped and an R gear knob all done by the dealer before we collected. So much better than standard :D

If all the plastic silver trim was brushed/polished metal the same as on the steering wheel spokes it would really improve the perceived quality, especially the door pulls because you touch them every time you get in the car, it would create a fantastic first impression to feel cool metal rather than plastic as you closed the door.

If anyone from the aftermarket industry is reading, I would pay good money for polished stainless steel trim. I also have a Vespa and there is a thriving aftermarket for shiny replacement bits and pieces. People love shiny things.

Overall I like it as it's solid, comfortable, functional and cosy.

If I had a criticism it's that it's a bit too generically VW and thus a bit dull. Some other makers have some more interesting interiors. having said that though, some of the whacky sci-fi looks of some cars age quite quickly imo, whereas I think VW play the safe game for longevity. I think too that the radio and MFD graphics are woeful. In an age when smartphones and mp3 players have high res colour graphics, the in car screens are very '1990s'. Yes cars have a long R&D phase but I think a lot of them should learn a thing or two from phones and step up the quality a bit.

Totally agree, VW seem to try and build a car that goes beyond fashions, just look at the interior of a Mazda 3, Focus or an Astra. It like an explosion has gone off in a button factory. Also VW's don't seem to constantly freshen every 3 years like Audi to keep up with the jones'.

Don't like the brushed silver trim, hence speccing Lugano Black, and to be honest it's neat and clean enough but nowhere near as special as the outside of the car. The car I test drove had leather and I thought it was awful so went with the cloth. Can't for the life of me see why the magazines rate the build quality so highly - yes it's good, but offers nothing over and above my previous Astra.

That all sounds like I don't like the car - but rest assured I do!

Others who own standard cars if you will, I'm talking bog standard Ellesmere Port skips and the like all say that when they get in it feels "quality" and I agree.

The seats feel nice, the wheel feels well built and the rest of it feels very very spacious. Having said that, that could be due to how far back I am from the wheel. I'm only a short guy, but I like my space.

The thing I like about the interior is it's the same as the mk5 Golf, only blacker. One of the things that made me chose the roc over the golf was the interior - the Golf Mk6 interior is a little bland and it's a shame they ditched the 2 "grab handle" things below the centre console.

Only thing I would like to see changed is the door cards - they look a bit cheap compared to other VW models, and the door grab handles "creak" a little when used.
