Courtesy car Hit n Run

Post by candyboytsi210 »

Well, my scirocco went in for some warranty work, i got given a Golf GTD, so last night i was just out and a guy is there with his reverse lights on, im stationary quite far back, he reverses all the way back into me, he didnt stop and i didnt get his number plate, so it was a hit and run,

car goes back on monday,

im in a real sticky situation here,

ADVICE MUCH APPRECIATED.

Ouch.. was it a courtesy car on your own insurance or the garage's policy?

Looking on the brighter side.. at least you wasn't in your Roc when it happened :eyepop:

Where abouts did it happen and could there be any cctv coverage?

First thing I would do is inform the police, then inform the insurer/garage, and then take things from there. You should do this straightaway.
The UK Motor Insurance Beureu has funds for dealing with victims of hit n runs/uninsureds, so don't worry too much on that score at this point.

Sorry to hear what has happened to you.

Sadly I think you may find that you will have a large excess to pay on the Dealer insurance. They are a bit like rental companies, they are always high, probably around £500

If the dealer wants to claim on the insurance, you will need to pay the excess or for the damage whatever is the cheaper and you will have to declare you had an accident to your own insurance.

If the dealer decides not to go through the insurance you will need to pay for the damage. Probably the best scenario for you.

Either way your wallet is going to be significantly lighter

If there was no witnesses/cctv etc why didn`t you drive after the driver of the other car?
What has the police said as I`m sure they`ll be other cctv in the area to see the other car?
Why didn`t you contact the garage the next day?

i did try to drive after him, couldn't catch his number plate. He drove through no entrys onto footpaths , and i couldn't do that.
I have contacted the garage, i've got to speak to the service manager. Police havn't been informed..

so i took the car back, they weren't really pee'd off tbh, they told me to claim through my insurance, but the confusing thing is..

VW insured me through there insurance, how can i claim through my own. I dont get it , They never explained this at the time of collecting the GTD.

I don't get it either, if they provided the insurance for the courtesy car then you need to claim through that. Anytime I've had a courtesy car on my insurance I've had to phone my insurance and give them the details of the courtesy car.

I would go back and clarify with the service manager.

Although it wasn't your fault, without any witnesses, how can you prove it was a hit and run and you just didn't run into an object?

Its a confusing and difficult situation. I've gave them a call , and they say the cover is provided through your company. But how can it be? For all they know , my policy might not allow courtesy vehicles to be driven at all.

I've not called my company at all or declared a courtesy vehicle.

They said they analysed the vehicle, and it was hit by something but not a vehicle. I was in the car when it actually reversed into me ? Weird

Hmmmmm........This smelly incredably fishy to me? Why wouldnt you ring the police straight away? Didnt you even get any of the reg as you said it was an 06? First two letter?Colour of car?direction of travel? Surely they can look at nearby CCTV?

Also, probably a local person so you could have a drive around the streets? Ask local pubs to check CCTV? Im not judging but your story doesn't seem real to me. If i was the dealer/insurance/police id be thinking it looks like you've got a more powerful courtesy car, maybe had a bit of fun in it and bumped it?

I must admit, your story does sound a bit odd, but I aint here to judge.

There are a few things that I cant understand though, the main one being why you didnt call the police. Why wouldnt you? I had a car go into the back of me once and, when I pulled over, the cheeky c*** sped off. I chased after him and was on the phone to the police at the same time, but lost him on some tight streets where everyone double parks and I got stuck with oncoming traffic. I thought I had the reg of his car, but it drew a blank with the police.

The other thing is how do you know there isnt any CCTV, as there may be police or council cameras around.

As for the insurance, you need to clarify with the dealer what the crack is. I assume they gave you a copy of what you signed, so take a look at the small print on the back. I cant see how you can claim off your own insurance, if you havent put temporary courtesy car cover on it, so you really need to clarify everthing with the dealer.
I can rely on my car, it's my Roc!!!

Hmm.

The main thing i done was just followed , but he drove off into no entrys etc, didn't wanna risk it. I thought i had his number plate, i searched it up on mid, came up as error , so not the correct plate.

I suppose so , i need to find out, but in the area , on that street there is no CCTV, i'll have to see what i can do!

I rang up the Service Manager, he basically said , you've signed the papers and at the time they didnt give me a copy and didnt tell me that it wasn't there insurance as i assumed it was.
I didn't get a copy either.

As for the police situation, i know im taking in what your all saying. Mistake on my part. I just wanted the vehicle back to normal.

The service manager got back to me and said, it doesn't look like the car has hit or been hit. (from the body shop at VW)
