I've had this problem with mine from day 1 and the dealer couldn't sort it!!!! so now if i want mine to come on when I open the drivers door, I have to flash the lights every time. Thats what the dealer has said I have to do!!! This seems a little bizzare to me, my audi before as soon as you took the key from the ignition the lights came on!!! :grumpy: :?

What... So you don't have to flick the the main beam now to make the coming home light work. They actually do what they are supposed to. If so did your dealer say it was a common problem and VW supplied the fix. Because there are quite a few on here with this problem.. Let us know please.

Silver130,

No they still don't do what they are supposed to do! You still have to flick the main beam before leaving car - How bad is that? :(

It may be possible to get them to do it automatically, certainly saw a few coming home light options in the modules, but didnt bother trying them as i never use it.

Did activate my second rear fog light though, but i never use that either ;)

I'd seen the second-rear-fog-light option on the VAG-COM list. Does the car actually have two rear fog lights and for some reason they only switch one on?

How do you go on at MoT time with that one? If it's fitted it has to work...

My 2nd generation BMW Mini works the same way (flick main beam to keep lights on for period) whereas my First Generation Mini left the lights on if you switched the ignition off without switching the lights off first. A german development perhaps!?

My Coming Home Lights were working automatically when I switched off and exited the car when I first got it, then one day I instinctively switched the lights from the automatic position to off when at a petrol station before switching them back to automatic.

Ever since I did that, my Coming Home Lights have to be activated manually (by flashing the lights) rather than working automatically ?! I've tried different light switch patterns to try and rectify it since, but with no success. I had a word with my local dealer and they're not sure what I've done but have said they will take a look for me. I need to stop sitting on my drive playing with the lights now though - I'm sure the neighbours think I've gone mad !!!
