Just Done this....

Post by X13NGX »

Long story short, painted some of the outside of my house today, ironically decided to move the Roc up the street to avoid any paint splashes - forgot to take the scraper out of my back pocket -

The red mist has now lifted and I'm wondering what the damage is going to be, anybody any thoughts?, new seat, new bottom section?, re-cover?, anybody think I'm gonna have any colour matching issues?.

Gutted!!!!

I did this a couple of years ago in a new Land Rover Discovery with a screwdriver in my back pocket. I felt like a right plonker!

An upholsterer could repair this, but you would still see the area of damage, ( wouldnt be invisible ) depends how much your willing to spend, and what your willing to live with.

*Cringe*

Very bad luck! I would have a word with a vehicle upholsterer. You may find replacement is cheaper when you consider the labour in a repair.

Or steal the leather from the passenger seat and blame the wife !!! :D

Aw man i feel for you! I'd get it fixed then get on to one of the national salvage firms, you'll be able to request a new seat and when one comes in they'll let you know, gotta be cheaper than buying new?

According to my dad (which is a bit bigger than me) while test driving, the passenger seat is somewhat, very slightly, wider than the drivers seat...

ohhhhh nasty, yeah as said before you can get just the bottom of the seat through vw, if your good with the tools then you could do it yourself, take the seat out and strip it down and the cover is attatched to the foam/frame by small bits of "S" shaped metal, unclip these then refit , easy when you know how  , but hard if you dont

Thank's for the replies, I think it will be a new bottom section cover then.
Ryan - Do you know if there would be any colour matching issues?, I have the winter pack, are the heated seats just a couple of connectors?.

Think I'm gonna give this a bash myself, I'll let you all know how I get on.

there will be one major plug under the seat when you take it out, and the actual heated part of the seat is like a big sheet of plastic with wires running through it. the colour match are usually spot on, unless the other part of the seat is badly worn, but this obviously wont be an issue on a new car
