There is a maximum file structure you can use for the sd card I can't remember exactly what it is its in the owners manual but basically if you put too many files in it just hangs like you mentioned, the usb method is unlimited

Hi I have exactly the same symptoms on my 2.0tdi and yesterday had the thermostat replaced. Driving home tonight under load it reached 85 but on a long down hill it dropped to 70. I had a TPS go on my Audi TT, and when that failed it would make it look like car was overheating similar system to scirocco, I bought a cheap one from eBay and fitted it and it gave a incorrect reading of about 75 -80, a lot easier to change than a thermostat

I've bought some genuine roof bars of eBay and there are no fitting instructions does anybody have a pdf copy or a few photos of the instructions? Any help greatly appreciated because I don't know if I have all the tools for fitting, cheers.

Just thought I would give a update found the problem was the thermostat took hour and half to fit and bleed out cooling system, temp gauge now sits nicely at a constant 90, thank you all for your advice
