Noticed it when I was under the car fitting my dogbone mount.

I checked a few other pics online and it seams to be part of the casting, I would assume it's there for a reason. Someone might have a full explanation.

Had a similar noise from the passenger door after the dealers replaced the window regulator.

I thought it was a loose wire vibrating inside the door, they reported a loose hinge. They tightened them up and the noise disappeared, worth a try.

Nice one Scott. As the dealership are now saying they won't change the bolts or fit the spacers because the technical bulletin relates to a different model (passat). My view is that they should have replaced the bolts as a matter of course, based on the findings on the articles and that the symptoms...
