Screen now replaced under warranty. Did not know that the screen only carries a 12 months warranty but they replaced mine because of safety grounds.
Wonder how many more screens are like this one but you think its just crap on the glass

Re: Windscreen problems
Hi Hotrod my dealer tells me that there is nothing reported on VW site about this but he is leaving things open and if I cant clean the screen they are going to get windscreen specialist to look at it and may change under warranty, so might get a happy ending.

Re: Windscreen problems
Hi Have used solvent based cleaners and non solvent based but you cant see it unless the light is right.
It looks like a Crystalline structure in the Perspex that’s sandwiched between the glass and is acting like a prisum in certain light but will give the clay a go incase

Re: A new wheel rim for £317?!
I think these wheel are made for VW by BBS I have seen a manufacturing video on their site some time ago and they were the same as fitted to my car.
Have looked on BBS site but they don’t list them for sale.

Windscreen problems
Has anyone had a problem with their windscreen? First noticed it last year when driving into the sun I got lots of shiny speckles in the glass but you can see anything other time, thinking I had parked under a tree and had sap on the glass thought no more of it. Now the sun has started to show its s...

Re: heater warm up time
You have gone down more or less the same route as me, I don’t use the heater till I have 90 on the gauge and that’s a good 5 miles of urban driving but I have noticed that summer or winter the distance is about the same before 90 is achieved. Can see why they use electric heaters in colder countries...

Re: heater warm up time
Sounds to me that who ever makes the heater/air con units has made the heater matrix to small or the water flow in the heater is not great enough, which ever way it is the heater is not up to the job

Re: heater warm up time
You don’t have to have thrash it to get a rise in temperature the fact the engine has stopped running means the mechanical water pump has stopped, the heat will build up because the water has stopped moving, It’s at this point the coolant would boil if it was not for the fact the rad cap maintains a...

Re: heater warm up time
You have got to be on the right trail RW with replacing the stat its the only answer sounds like you been unlucky or is there a faulty batch of stats made for the 1.4. Wax stats tend to become weaker (open early) if they get cooked, this could happen in the summer time after a fast run. On your engi...

Re: heater warm up time
I must admit I tend not to turn the heater on till the temperature gauge reaches 90 unless I have ice on the widescreen and that can be 10 miles. Interesting I have noticed that there is not a lot of difference between summer and winter warm up times as I don’t use the heater and take heat out of th...

Re: heater warm up time
Something else to take into account is the heat is the waist product of burning fuel so the more efficient an engine is the less heat is produced. This problem came up at the beginning of last winter, I believe Kenlow makes a mains heater that is fitted to the engine which you switch on 10 minuets b...

I will second that thought the 140 disappointing, yes worth the £1000 it’s a better car.

Re: Turbo engine cooling time?
I seem to recall having read somewhere that it is not necessary to allow the engine to idle to cool the turbo with these new modern engines. Just can't remember where I read it :? http://www.volkspage.net/technik/ssp/ssp/SSP_359.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; page 19 s...

Re: Which diesel? 140 or 170?
No one has mentioned wanting 200bhp in this thread as far as I can see. No I was making this comparison from 140 to 200 to show that for your £1000 your getting more than a re-chipped engine, I understand that the turbo is bigger and the injectors are different on the 170 maybe some one on here can...

Re: Which diesel? 140 or 170?
Keep hearing about re chipping a 140 to make it a 170 and save money. A 170 is not a just a re- chipped 140 engine there is more besides. Ask yourself this if you can re-chip a 140 to 170 why not just chip it to 200? Think your find you cant
