Re: Temporary loss of Drive - DSG (R)
Yes, dealers. Although some independants can get hold of the downloads through other third party supportive means. Just depends whether the new release has been made available through that channel. Your issue is to convince the dealer there is something wrong. They need to go beyond looking for fau...

Re: Temporary loss of Drive - DSG (R)
Thanks RW. How do I get the update - visit to the stealer?
Does it take long to update?
Is there some sort of service bulletin that describes the issues the update fixes?

Re: Temporary loss of Drive - DSG (R)
The only possible complaint I have with DSG is that it sometimes doesn select a gear when the car is rollign very slowly. Eg I've just backed out of a car park space and then selected Drive and started to move forward then taken my foot off the throttle so it is just rolling at 5mph. At this point ...

Re: DSG Mechatronic Issues
I have an R with DSG and love it to bits. Its nothing like a regular auto box, which I dislike. When you're feelign lazy or just on the usual commute then leave it in auto and let it get on with things. If you want a bit of quick involvement, or know you're coming up to a bend or r'bout and want to ...

Re: DIY Retro-Fit Cruise to a MY11 - Advice Pls
£300 for cruise fitted by http://www.vwcruise.com/129.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Their site says plus vat so £360. Given the parts are around £250 retail, £110 is an awful lot for half an hour's labour and a bit of coding. And I bet they get the parts at trade too...

Re: VW Bluetooth and RCD-510
You may not have the most recent BT hardware. There are several versions and only the very late ones support full intergration. You can read full details on this very useful site: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/a5/VW-bluetooth-FAQ.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It c...

Re: Gearbox weights and ratios
I've got the weight for the high torque six speed and it's 49kg so DSG cars have a 44kg weight penalty - just over the difference a full tank of fuel makes.

Gearbox weights and ratios
Does anyone have info on the weight difference between the 6 speed manual and 6 speed DSG boxes? The ones fitted to the higher torque cars in particular please. I've found the weight for the DSG which is 93kg but ant find anything on the manual six speed but believe it s around 50kg. I'm also intere...

Re: Pano Roof Pictures
Good choice. I would never have specced one if ordering a new car but ended up buying a s/hand car with one fitted and it makes the car feel so much roomier inside because of the light, particularly for passengers in the rear. It is a shame that it only tilts but raising it gets some nice fresh air ...

Re: Anyone DIY retrofitted rear parking sensors???
Watching this with interest as I'm planning on the same mod. Would be handy to see some pics of where the bumper fixings are, any special removal tools/tricks and the best order to remove them. And if there are helpful markings on the inside of the bumper. But I'm very tempted to fit a £20 kit that ...

Re: Boom noise on gear change with DSG
I do enjoy it :) As Kev will testify after I took him out for a compare and contrast with a GT DSG :) (1mph lower than wigit on his "test" btw). Whilst you could hear the boom in Kev's car it was very hard to hear compared to my car. I know the R has a different rear silencer. Is the mid ...

Re: Boom noise on gear change with DSG
Like you say I can just make out the boom in the vid above. My concern is that the boom is sometimes very loud, like there is a large subwoofer in the boot. If the noise was low level like it appears in the vid then fine but it is very boomy and loud. But the volume is by no means consistent or alwa...

Re: R brakes and track days
Pagid 4-2s aren't bad, bit wooden compared to RS14s but if that's all that's available then I guess they will do! One pad that is getting high praise in Elise circles is the Carbonne Lorraine RC5+ - great track/race performance but also amazing cold bite too so good for road use. I will be trying th...
