Has anybody gone for the £299 3 yr servicing package? & if so is it worth it as what i can gather alot of these rocco's will have the longlife engine oil so wont require annual servicing. So if one takes this 3 yr package then you might end up going to the dealers probably once or twice. Any other views would be appreciated

All will have longlife oil in them, however that doesn't automatically mean they're set for longlife service intervals - if cars are regularly doing a lot of urban journeys then they should ideally be on time and distance servicing (1 year / 10,000 miles), so it really depends on what the majority of your driving will be as to whether you would expect to get value for money.

I took this package and requested they put my car on time and distance (10k/12mth) to get the most benefit. I do a high mileage so won't benefit from the brake fluid change etc. but still good value IMO for the first 3 services.

I personally prefer T&D servicing even although my car is in the dealers every 4 months.

Reckon i'll be doing 8-11k per annum with probably 30 % motorway driving & the remainder urban, but can also change my driving route to 70 % motorway & the remainder urban.

Just exactly what do they replace in the 1st service besides the oil & oil filter anybody?

depending on when the 1st service pops up they may change the pollen filter. Servicing on a modern car is mainly just checks these days

So sounds like 2-3 items replaced in the 1st service & the remainder just visual inspections.

Doing the mileage you are doing I would buy teh service package and get them to change your car over to T&D if it isn't already. That way you'll get the 3 services which will do you up to it's 3rd birthday.

£299 averages out at just under £100 per service. Even a simple oil and filter change at the dealer will be more than that these days.

Only standard service items on the diesel are;

oil
oil filter
fuel filter
pollen filter
air filter
brake fluid

Do they use a VW oil for the engine or the Castrol?

It will depend on the UK dealership you use, so you need to ask them before you make a booking if you want a certain brand. Some like the large Inchape group are using Shell Helix AV-L cos they have bought a load of it in a deal. Some will use Castrol.

£299? It's £249 at my dealer for the 2 year package. I've just had my service done (this - major, and next - minor are free within my VW finance), but I will be taking out the package this time next year for 2013 and 2014 services.

The £299 package is for the first 3 services 10k/20k and 30k and must be bought within 90 days of the car being registered. It is free with if you buy your car using VW finance.

The 2 year package which includes a major and minor service as well as free MOTs costs £349. If your dealer is only changing £249 then that's really good value.

Instead of paying main dealer prices, why not go to independant garages, as long as they are vat registered use genuine parts then its perfectly ok to go to the cheaper garage, and get the book stamped.

You won't be able to get an indie to do the first 3 services for less than £299 all in. If you do find one you've won a watch :-)

Sorry i agree, i was thinking along the lines of annual servicing without the £299 offer.

I need to book mine in for its first service, as it will hit 10k this week, without any servicing package at the moment - will see if they try to flog a package to me.

Does anyone know what the allowable mileage "over-run" is for having the service done without affecting the warranty? I'm used to 1,000 miles and 30 days "over-run" with Audi, and every car i've had before that, but the VW warranty wording only says "serviced when appropriate". Helpful! I note from the VW website that their extended warranty wording says "within 2k or 3 months", which seems rather generous and you'd think would have the same terms as the manufacturer's warranty.

Does anyone know? (I could always ring the dealer, of course, but if I can put it off a week or two I will do...)

I always thought it was 1k miles / 1 month
