Repetitive noise from tyre (like what u get on an overpass)

All,

Help!

I'm driving happily today, not really noticed until I got near home.

Then I hear "d-dum, d-dum, d-dum" like when you go on the motorway (M6 near Fort Dunlop Birmingham is what comes to mind) and you have the road strips for a bridge and it makes that noise when you ride over them.

Any ideas what it could be? I'm going to see if the tyres will accept air in a bit, but am a bit worried as nobody of called has any idea what it could be, though they understand the noise I'm on about.

Stone stuck in the tyre tread, sidewall bulge (hit any potholes lately?) are biggest possibilities that spring to mind.

Better you inspect the tyre(s) asap inside/outside tyre walls & tread area as well as tyre pressures. ;)

Yup, inspected right away. Spent ages trying to check if places local are still open. Great stuff.

Need it sorting ASAP. Local garages should have tyres in stock, but I expect to pay through the bloody teeth for it. I HATE EVERYTHING right now.

It really is bigger than it looks on that pic. Not good at all. Gutted. Really bloody gutted.

You're probably looking at about £162 for a fitted Dunlop SP Sport Maxx or similar - Try ATS, blackcircles and tyre shopper. If you're an AA member (or know someone that is) you might get ATS even cheaper (10% discount?)

Worst thing is, nowhere ever has 235/40 R18/Y's in stock - there's always a 2 or 3 day wait to get them in.

It's not 18's. They're 235/35 R19 I need!

You're right NOBODY has them - I need to get to work today too :(

Do a quick local search on eBay, you may be lucky.

Looks like space saver wheel for you for a few days (if your puncture is on the front, swap out with one from the back and put space saver on the back) - keep the miles off as much as you can, those tyres supposedly only have a 160 mile life (might be written on the side of the tyre) as there's almost no tread on them. Shop around and get a proper tyre ordered ASAP, you will be waiting 2 to 3 days for one at best.

The space saver scares me. With it being lowered and how small it is (think it's a 17, I'm sure my car would be dragging the bodywork on the floor! Just looks like it would.

Well.......... a bit of an update from earlier. I searched around on eBay, nothing. But I had called National Tyres around 3rd out of the 7 or so local garages I called and they like the others had nothing. So thought nothing of it.

Anyway, after calling more further afield 15 miles away and still getting nothing my phone rang and it was National. The guy said he had someone coming back from Birmingham branch who had 2 Avon ZZ5's in stock and he could get them for me. It was £170. I was really happy with this and went for it, but as I like to change in pairs and both were getting skinny anyway (had like 2 months left in them I think) I asked if I had both would he do it for £320. He said they're meant to be £185 and after a bit of a silence said yes.

So now, the only review I can find on Avon ZZ5's 235/35/R19Y is one @ ATS which they rate as a 10/10. Strange though as it seems I was given an £82 discount according to the receipt! lol.

My first impressions are they're quiet (not had time to get them or check if they're at 36PSI yet) and hold nicely in the wet (not drove it too mental yet, will wait until they bed in before I start going nicely down country lanes! :)

Been running my other cars on Avons for 20 years. ZV1 & ZV3's and they are exactly as you describe as well. Found the ZV3 a very quiet tyre for cabin rumble and also road noise when the windows are down.

As soon as my Bridgestone Potenza's  are worn out, Avons are going on.

I previously had Ecsta Sports KU31's on my ST and they were quiet and had amazing grip, but considering how much of a rattle bucket the Roc is inside ;) - these Avons are by far the quietest tyres I've had on. Just need my creaky tailgate sorting out now.

In work for 6am tomorrow, M6 is always dead Saturday mornings Southbound so will be able to try them out on my own. The Ecsta R19's for the Roc are £105 each on CamSkill, so will probably try them when I replace the Dunlops on the back and move them to the front as I do with all the new tyres (move newest tyres to the front that is).

Very happy. But as I said, just wish I could of waited an extra 2 months to get the rest out of the Dunlops I had on.
