Xenons - Surely there is a problem?

A question for you guys. I've had my 170 TDI for about a month now, and am finding the xenons to be a major dissapointment. On dipped beam you can barely see more than a car length in front of me, when travelling down unlit roads at speed its rather unnerving!! Also when on full beam they light up the trees above you which looks a bit odd. I've had Xenons on previous cars and they have been excellent but I have to say the headlights on my 1975 MGB are better than these. I've taken them to a dealer and the 12 year old who came out and looked at them says they line up ok so they are fine. Just thought I'd ask on here before going back to the dealer to kick off! Any ideas?

I had the same thing with mine ! on the driver's side the range was about 2.5 white lines on the road !!!!
took it back 2 weeks ago, told the sales man that i was very dissappointed with the range so he booked me in for re-adjustment !!!
When i picked up to car the salesman said the on the report that they were set very low !!!! second car he's had like that !!
So that night took the car out on some dark roads mmmmm far better NOW ! in 1 place the road has a 1 mile long straight and on full beam u can see the road signs at the end off it

Yup had that problem aswell, which is annoying when trying the autobahn

.
Mine where checked and the mechanic had to turn 3-4 complete times to get anywhere near correct height.
Now it's quite brilliant, problem is I cannot go back to a car without xenon now

Same problem on mine.
Note you can not adjust them without VAG.
A HUGE difference after adjustment

That's not completely right. The adjustment will stick if done manually. The zero point though has to be reset using VAGCOM, mine hasn't had this done yet but I haven't noticed any ill effect.

Mine were set up perfectly, they are light years better than the standard bulbs. I hardly ever use main beam as they give such a good spread of light.

Is this a walk in job or does it have to be booked in? as my lights are pants at the mo and i think they need adjusting.

it may not take long but generally all dealers can't cope with walk ins regardless of how small a job, you need an appointment.

Is it generally full beam xenons people ae having problems with or dipped headlights as well?
My full beams seems ok but the dipped headlights are poor at lighting road?

Asked the dealer to check mine based on other's experiences when my car arrived. Informed that they have been set up correctly but went out for my first night drive last night and Dipped Beam seems to be shining only about 10-15 metres in front of the car... Main beam is stunning, but can't see much on dipped. Very unnerving!!! Just contacted the dealer so they can have another look for me. Grrr.
