9W7 Bluetooth upgrade problem

Hi guys

I've just installed a couple of goodies on my MY2011 Scirocco:
- 9W7 Bluetooth to replace "VW Premium" rCRAP unit that the car came with that didn't work with my iPhone; and
- MDI media in which I swapped for the armrest CD Player

Installing the 9W7 was easy-as, but i have a major problem. It connects to my phone OK but there is no sound. The built-in microphone in the car isn't working and I don't hear anything from the car speakers when calling out.

I thought perhaps the 9W7 was faulty so i put the old unit back in, but no joy - still no mike/speaker action.

A mate of mine came and did a scan with his vag-com and I've got a bunch of faults. Some are related to the MDI (although it works) and there are others for the microphone speakers etc. They're all double-dutch to me, so would really appreciate any advice about fixes. If all else fails Ill have to take it to VW, but would really like to sort it on my own if poss.

The "old" bluetooth unit i took out is 5N0 035 730 C

These are the details of the faults

I didn't have access to a vag-com to stat with. I read a few posts off here from guys that had done it and for them it was just a straight swap. no coding needed. They must have had a different rSAP module to mine.

So, short answer is no.

If you or anyone else can help with what coding changes i should make id be really grateful

Hey Blue, thks for your help with this mate. Well ive been down in the garage and gone through each of the options in the long code helper. none that I could see to turn the mic on. (sorry if im being thick). The options available with whats selected are:

Byte: Bit: Description:
0 02 Default language English
1 00 Voice Operation Active. Tried the other options - 1 off, and 2 partial but no change
2 00 Audio parameter settings 1 (very cryptic) there are three other options settings 2, 3 and 4. I tried them all but no change
3 00 Cooperative mute switch inactive. I ticked the check box to make it active. no change
4 00 Multimedia function (Bluetooth Audio) active
5 01 Antenna diagnostic inactive
6 01 Telephone baseplate diagnostic inactive
7 01 Operate unit cell-phone 3 button keypad, rest of world. The other options are North America and not installed. Tried both no change.

I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't a conflict with something else. Maybe the voice-commands for the RNS-510?

Im pretty sure. I did the MDI install last weekend and everything was working fine including the old rSAP phone. The new 9W7 arrived on Thursday. after i put it in and found it wasn't working. But you're right, might be worth checking the connector block at the back of the radio. I'll do that in the morning and let you know.

You didnt have the ignition on whilst installing the Bluetooth did you ?, try disconnecting the bluetooth and reinstalling it.

Well Ive fixed the problem! I traced it back to user retardation.....

A quick check behind the radio found that the plug-n-play wiring harness that came with the MDI didn't have a pass-through for the phone controls. I was so hung up on it being a coding problem i didn't check that the bloody thing was plugged in! Swapped multi-pin connector 3 from the main quadblock to the new harness and its all good.

Thx for your help Blue. Would have spent hours playing round with the coding otherwise. If you're ever in Abu Dhabi I owe you a beer or 10.

Ahh , Yes the connector needs to come from the old quadblock and go into the one in the headunit, as you said it worked after you did the MDI I guessed it had been done
