Steering wheel functions and horn failure

I was driving home tonight and the functions on the steering wheel failed and the lights have gone out. The horn is also not working, I rang VW to see if they could come out but told me that the car is over a year old and I would have to renew the and pay around £100 to renew but they where not sure that they could actually do anything even if they did come out.

So I am left trying to get a dealer to look at it, tomorrow or early next week.

Not sure if it is serious or just something minor - no faults coming coming up either.

Anyone have any ideas?

There is a problem with some MY2010.5 + builds to do with the steering controller. Also knocks out the rear wiper iirc.

Worth a read through this (fuse) and its sub link I put up. Link

Solution re-programmes the controller with updated software due to incorrect software at manufacture. If your symptoms fit, its a known VW problem in a bulletin 2024249/2.

Managed to get another dealer to take a look today, diagnosed as being a failure with some communications device that is between the steering wheel and column - so you have to replace the entire column. Booked in for Tuesday...
