When I ask my phone to search for devices, it can't find the car.....but the car CAN find the phone...wierd...
As always.....any advice will be greatfully received....and I'll be more than pleased to send any postee a virtual drink of their choice for their help....

There is a section in the manual for Bluetooth (I don't have it, I don't think. lol.) But if there are still probs, you'll find an answer here.

You need to search through the cars phone system, once your phone is found press the okay button and a long number will come up, on your phone it will ask you to enter that number. once you press done or connect on the phone it'll be plain sailing from there.

How old is the car? could it be the rsap kit rather than the full Bluetooth kit which only came in earlier this year & therefore, have you enabled rsap on the phone?

I've just returned fron my VW dealership, and they have told me that my Nokia N95 isn't compatible with the car's hands free blutooth system
...it's all a bit wierd if you ask me, I think the phone is only 3 years old..?
anyway, does anyone by chance have the definitive list of phones that WILL work please?
Also, I'd be interested to hear about phones (type model etc) that DO work well..
Cheers...

Not a complete list by any means as the companies bring new phones out every couple of months but the N95 is on it.

Sounds like what I was thinking & mentioned on your other thread (now merged) that your bluetooth is not bluetooth as you know it but rSap (remote sim access profile, iirc, google it) bluetooth which is a nokia thing & not all phones have (not even all nokias). I am surprised based on when you said the car was registered.
If it is rSap, the n95 is on the rSap compatible list so I think you do need to enable the rSap in the bluetooth menu, seems it is referred to as Remote Sim mode.
http://www.fixya.com/support/p535256-no ... 60/page-31" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; page 30 & 31
In the mean time, I think its worth you checking what part number is on the box under the passenger seat when you get a moment & then we can go from there (part numbers for the rsap box & revised box
here)
Hope that helps

Subject: rSap
Customers vehicle has an RCD 510 which is rSAP compatible only and is only compatible with the following phones;
Nokia: 3109c, 3110c, 5310XM, 6021, 6151, 6230, 6230i, 6233, 6234, 6300, 6500C, 6500S, 6810, 6820, 6822, E50, E61, E61i, E90, 8800, 9300, 9500, N78, N82
Siemens: SK65, S68, S65, S75, SP65
Volkswagen now have an upgrade for vehicles which support rSAP only which will allow a wider range of mobile phone compatibility.
The UMTS mobile phone upgrade is only to be used in conjunction with factory-fitted mobile phone preparation. Using the latest Bluetooth technology, it enables the system to interact with a wider range of mobile phones using rSAP and HFP, including iPhone, Blackberry and other compatible smartphone handsets.
The phonebook can be controlled using the multifunction steering wheel, which will display in the Driver Information System.
The part number for this particular upgrade unit is 000051473F and the recommended retail price is approximately £235.00
Alternatively a Bluetooth TouchPhone Kit (part number: 000051473A) will also allow a wider range of phone compatibility. This is available at a cost of approximately £230.00 fitted. However, prices may vary depending on the cables used.
To find out which phones are compatible with the above mentioned upgrades, please visit: http://www.volkswagen-zubehoer.de/eng" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and then click on: News & Information > Touch Phone Kit Compatibility List.
The list is applicable for both the UMTS and the Touch Phone Kit.

So, I'm really confused now.....
Thanks very much Trix for the N95 Nokia manual link..really useful, however, there appears to be no mention of rSAP in there?

As I mentioned above it is referred to as 'Remote Sim mode' that is the part you need to read which starts on page 30 of that link (scroll up once it opens) & continues on page 31 which is where the link opened at.
in simple terms how I understand the different references & their relation to each other (i'm not a tech expert by any stretch of the imagination): the phone requires the 'remote sim mode' turning on [remote sim mode is a type of bluetooth] which enables it to transmit the 'remote sim access profile (rSap)' which the car kit picks up & connects to.
The car kit is encrypted to this rSap type of bluetooth rather than the general UMTS/HFP bluetooth which the larger percentage of phones use.
Hopefully that explains it

Basically VW says "We sold You old crap RSAP phonekit, please trow out and buy new bluetooth phonekit"
I was in Your situation and that is exactly what I did...
Please read the first part of this article in order to understand what You have bought:

Thanks for your help Bianco...much appreciated
..so are we saying that I need to change the thing under the seat?
if I do this what functionallity will I have...i.e will phonebook be available on display etc..?
last night I managed to switch on the remote access sim thing on the nokia...tried to pair it...and the car is asking me to input a code...(into the mobile presumably?)...the code looks like this:
3333 4444
7777 9999
I'm unsure exactly what it wants me to input ?
I've tried to imput different combinations when asked...but nearly always get 'timed out' by the car...
FFS...all I want is a phone that works
is that too much to ask?

did you try inputting the entire 16 digits in? (ie first line then second line)
S
eta: your phone has rSap so you don't need to change the box of tricks out (unless you change your phone to a phone that does not support rSap)

It sounds as if it should be possible to connect Your N95 phone, so go for that first.
If You change the phone-kit box under the seat from what You have, to the new smarter phone-kit box, You will have exactly the same functionallity but now with all phones instead of only rSAP phones.

If you've seen a password request in the pairing process I'm almost certain you don't need to change your hardware. Pairing is like sex - nearly all the difficulty lies in the first successful attempt. Persist and you will get it to latch. All the numbers need to go in so you do need to be quick. Sit inside the car with the doors closed and try and keep the phone vertical and close to the unit (really!).
My wife has a ten year old Nokia 6210 from which she will not be parted (cos' she, unlike the rest of us, has this thing called common sense) and I got it working after about four attempts.
There is a combination that won't work but that shouldn't be your problem as your car is newer than mine.
