ContiSeal - Added bonus

When I bought the Rocco used a year ago, it originally had the 17" Alloys on despite being the 2.0 TSi GT... (something about the early cars or something). So, as part of the deal, They gave me the propper 18" alloys straight off the PassatCC in the showroom (With it's unused tyres). The cost to me.... £500, Bargin I thought considering 4 brand new pieces of rubber.

A year on and 12k mile later, I am starting to have to think about new rubber. When I went out to check the tyre specs, they have "ContiSeal" marked on them. This apparently is some new gum on the lining of the tyre inside that self seals if you get a puncture. A standard fit to New PassatCCs for early 2008. £200 a piece. Some £35 a corner more than the non-ContiSeal ones.

So.... not only did I get £800 pounds worth of tyres and Brand new 18" alloys... it only Cost me £500.....

But.... Should I spend the extra this time replacing with ContiSeals or pocket the £35 per corner?

I wouldn't know where to put your money I am afraid. Considering almost all new Rocs now come with the Conti's on them I think. Was wandering what are they like as a tyre? Do they ride well, make much noise, comfortable etc??

To be honest, they have been really nice. Before this I had the Michelain PS2s on my megane which were fantastic, but at £230 a corner, they were replaced with Dunlop Sport Maxxs which were sticky, but wore in no time, and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics which I really liked. Each of the latter two were about £140 a corner I think.

I have just read that MY 2011 Rocs will have run-flat tyres, which I assume they mean these.

Yea they mean the Conti's that are on the PassatCC. I assume because Continental is German hence supporting German industry ;). I will be intrigued to see what they are like once I receive my beast. I just hope the spare tyre is still in there! I have a 58plate Sporting Punto with Bridgestone Pontenza on and they are so hard they are uncomfortable and make a hell of a noise.
