Hi All, Newbie here, just seen this on the rumored R20T. Article on the Car website:

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new ... ide-story/

Volkswagen is readying a high-performance version of its Scirocco coupe. It's expected to wear the R20T badge, denoting it uses a 2.0-litre turbo mustering around 265bhp. It's the same firecracker four that sees service in the Audi S3, making this the most powerful Scirocco ever.

The new R20T will go on sale in early 2010, crowning the Scirocco range. Currently, UK customers can only buy the Scirocco in lighter pressure 2.0-litre turbo form with the Golf GTI engine. But the range will expand in January 2009 with the arrival of a 160bhp 1.4 Twincharger unit and a 140bhp 2.0-litre common-rail diesel. A more powerful, 170bhp derv arrives later next spring.

Tell me more about the new Scirocco R20T!

Fitting the S3's turbo to the Scirocco will turn the affordable coupe into a real firebrand – with the 0-62mph sprint likely to fall below six seconds and a 155mph limited top speed. Perfect for those who find the current 2.0 just a little too Golf GTI.

Volkswagen sources familiar with the project claim the R20T has 80% of the visual aggression of the Scirocco GT24 racer pictured. Remove the race-track wing, splitters and other Nurburgring paraphernalia and you get the idea.

The Scirocco R20T is likely to wear a price tag of £25,000, reflecting its performance ability. The UK won't, however, take the cheapest Scirocco derivative, the 140bhp 1.4 petrol TSI.

Why no R32 Scirocco?

It's the environment, stupid. Six-cylinder power isn't on the agenda for the Scirocco and it's relying on smaller, four-pot power that's better for emissions and economy. The old VR6-related unit is being quietly pensioned off...

265bhp through the front wheels. :eyepop: unless they come up with some smart suspension tweeks.

They're just guessing,as always with these 'inside scoops'.R20T seems like a logical guess at what the name might be.I can't see VW putting a 265hp FWD car into production,no chance of that(yes sticking my neck out :D ),so i'd be prepared to wager that if the S3 engine goes into the scirocco it'll have the haldex 4wd-they have all the bits and the platform already. They might go to 240ps with the FWD platform i guess-doesn't the Leon have that kind of figure?

Not sure this bit will happen. VW has never really given cars real visual oomph. The Golf R32 is essentially a GTi with a silver nose and twin pipes. Ditto the Passat version. It would be a real departure for them to make it wider and more larey.

It'll have the std arches,it's way wide enough already, the bespoke panels the racer has would cost a fortune to put into prduction and unneccessary.might have deeper bumpers and maybe a faux diffuser i guess, plus the usual suspension, wheel, brakes changes of course.S3 oily bits in a Scirocco shell more or less, and hopefully a grand or so cheaper than the S3 would be nice too. That's my guess, not as sensational as their guess but probably closer to the mark.

There's plenty of torque steer as it is, wouldn't want more power in here without the 4WD but then who'd want that weight? My brother in laws a3 2.0T quattro put the power down nicely but feels porky and harsh.

I was really excited about modding my 'roc, until i collected it last week, the only thing i've got planned is to tint the front windows so that they match the rears. Was considering different wheels etc but it really is awesome as it is.

Oh and hello Newbie, I am too.....welcome.....

Its not impossible mitsubishi and subaru have managed to fit most the parts you guys are talking about, it'll reflect in the price, as for the power nothing a trick LSD wont be able to handle with that power, The focus RS managed ok, and so did the alfa :)

depends on the level of the tint, i won't go too dark, just compliment the rears. So you're never going to take your car over 70mph then? After all that would also be dangerous and illeagal.....

Fair enough, from what you wrote I thought the front tint would match the rear, which would be too dark. Going over 70mph is indeed illegal, but not necessarily dangerous. Anyway, sorry, I didn't mean to come across as rude/abrupt! :)

Oh you're so rude and abrupt! ;-) I won't go gun totin' gangster brixton dark mate, just make the difference between the front and rear less obvious. Seems to stand out more on the black car. Oh and I've seen a few people drive over 70 that looked VERY dangerous too! :hyper:
