Scirocco Central

I have recently found out that the 4th piston on my scirocco (2016 2.0L TSI Petrol EA888 CULA engine) has gone - was getting no compression upon testing it and further inspection showed that apparently there is oil congealed within this piston but it looks damaged whether it be the ring or what not. my mechanic said that he thinks that this has been down to the oil supplied upon my last service (just 4 days prior to the engine going) (also by Arnold Clark's service plan).

I cannot get an engine anywhere - engine code is CULA and i cannot find a refurbed/reconditioned one anywhere. thus leaving me to having to probably rebuild - only 1 garage out of the 25+ i phoned in scotland have even entertained the job - said they cant squeeze me in for another 7 weeks and it would be £4500 to even do strip and rebuild ( not including parts ). so i am kind of at a cross road in what to do - does anyone have any tips or advice and does anyone have any experience with stripping of engine and think this could be manageable to perform myself as £4500 is just too much money.

PS - i plan on trading it in once it is running again as i have lost faith/reliability within the car - any help is much appreciated

Personally if I was trading in anyway may be worth cutting your losses and selling spares or repairs and putting the funds towards your new car.
Have you tried places like breaker link etc? I have had varying degrees of success finding part’s using them previously but obviously be aware you are buying from breakers on their list rather than breakerlink so pay by PayPal or credit card for your own protection.
Another may be to buy a salvage car from Copart as you only need the engine, make sure you get a car that runs and has an X at the end of the lot number (as they come directly from insurance / finance companies) I think there’s a branch in Scotland (maybe peterlee from memory) that way you can pull the engine from the car, sell the rest of the car for parts to offset some of the cost.
I would avoid rebuilding it yourself unless you have experience as things like piston rings and bottom end bearings can vary between engines even of the same code, you will also need to have the cylinders honed to allow the rings to bed in.

Obviously used, apparently with 45k on the clock. For a shade over £2k plus delivery.
I don’t know how reliable the company is though, obviously due diligence would help here and pay by a method that offers some protection.
