Scirocco 2.0 tsi won't rev over 3000 rpm in gear

I have a 2012 2.0 tsi gt 210bhp. Recently I've had an intermittent epc warning every so often which disappeared when I turned the engine off and back on again.
But now there is no warning lights but the engine won't rev much past 3000 rpm when I'm driving in gear. But if I dip the clutch whilst I'm moving the engine will happily rev all the way with no issues.
Has anyone else had this problem before?
