Is it necessary for a clutch upgrade

I've got a generic stage 2 map on my 2.0gt tsi at the moment at around 280-290 bhp and not sure if I should go back to a stage 1 just so that I can use the standard clutch. Some people say that a stage 2 with a standard clutch would also be fine .
What's your thoughts please guys as it's a lot of money for an upgraded clutch if I don't necessarily need it

Ive got a 2.0tdi GT 170 on a stage1 remap about 210 bhp. Was thinking of a stage 2 after christmas. They recommended that i changed to cold air induction and a hybrid turbo (only for better performance not necessary). Depending on the mileage they said it wasnt necessary for a bigger clutch unless going to race on a track or your heavy footed. Had my clutch tested on the stage 1 remap and they said it was performing really well.

Personally I would fit an uprated clutch for stage 2 and above, possibly even stage 1.
The added power will make the clutch wear out faster and it will more than likely start to slip.
*This info is for the petrol tsi engine. I've no experience on the tdi yet.
The standard clutch will probably hold for a while I would think, but if you plan on keeping the car it's worth fitting a good clutch kit (including release bearing/CSC and new dual mass flywheel). The cost adds up especially if labour charges are added but a good kit will last a long time.

There is no definitive answer as a lot of the stress placed on the clutch is down to driving style as well as the additional power and torque due to the upgrades. Saying that, it would make sense to budget in an upgraded clutch when going Stage 2 to be safe.
