EPC warning light

Post by Captain Clean »

Hi Folks. Just registered for this site. I have had my car for about 9 months. At the weekend the EPC warning light came on. It had done it twice before but cleared quite quickly(usually switching off and leaving for 30 seconds), but this weekend it would not reset as usual. The light eventually switched off after a third reset attempt. It then relit the next day on the 4 mile drive home. When the light it lit for the EPC warning it goes into the limp home mode and will not rev over 3000 revs.

Any ideas what could be causing the issue. Car is booked to local garage, where i am going to get them to pull codes and see what they say. Was looking to see if anyone could give me heads up that I could pass on to the garage for them to look for tomorrow. Dont know if it is relevant but it seams to happen when the bluetooth on my phone is connected to the Parrot MK 9200 unit( i know it could be nothing, but does seam to be a coincident or that I am barking at the wrong tree). Any suggestions on what could case the EPC warning light would be much appreciated. Forgot to say car is a 2 litre tsi with DSG. Other than this issue, I love the car.

EPC is Electronic Pedal Control so issue will either be the throttle pedal, which is a potentiometer, the throttle body or the associated wiring between them and the ECU.

According to the VW website, EPC stands for electronic power control. See link: http://www.vwserviceandparts.com/servic ... or-lights/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've had 2 coil packs fail and in both cases the epc light began to flash when misfiring and then stayed on when the misfire got worse. When it was scanned with vcds the engine management had shut the cylinder down. I think it logs a certain amount of errors and then activates and puts it into limp mode.
Hope you get it sorted.
