Hello guys,
I didn't know where to post this so I'll post it on here.
I was involved in an accident two days ago as some stupid c*nt with an old Honda prelude pulled out right infront of me from a parked position. I tried to dodge his car but he caught me from the rear panel to the wheel.
He tried to blame me for speeding as I'm only 20 and have a car like that.. although I wasn't. Doesn't matter ether way as he can't prove speed.

So our insurance companies are sorting out who's to blame and all that stuff.
So I have a few questions..

Am I allowed to refuse to take the car back if they don't use original VW parts?
The rear axle is bent and stuff. VW said about 400 for the axle itself.

Also if I see a difference in paint on the car, am I still able to refuse it?

An accident reduces value of the car but will it be in the system?

Any tips etc?
It's getting done through Arnold Clark if decide it's worth fixing but I helped out a guy who had contracts with insurance comp. And his spray painting was awful.

Car has 53k on the clock. Will it get fixed or cash?

is it only the rear panel thats damaged or is it also the door and rear bumper and boot lid?

Just make sure your car is repaired in a VW Approved Bodyshop in order to retain the 12 year corrosion warranty and value. It's your car so can dictate that it is repaired in a VW Approved Bodyshop.

It will only be recorded if the car is written off and a total loss.

Sad thing is though, even if it is deemed the other party's fault and you don't lose your NCD, your premium will take a hit for the next 5 years as you have to declare the accident.

Okay i dont understand that? So just because a junkie pulls out and hits my car, I will have to pay higher premium and declare it as a claim for what reason?

From personal experience my premiums didn't go up when I was declaring 2 non-fault accidents. So you might be ok

Doesnt look too bad from the photo, but you can never tell. If it does turn out to be a total loss, dont accept their first offer. Do research, find cars with similar mileage/options as back up to get a better price.

Yep, you have to declare all claims (fault and non fault) for the next 5 years, it all goes towards your risk factor, and that is how insurance companies work out your annual premium

Saying that, every insurance company works out risk in a different way (hence every company gives you a different price), so some companies it will make a big difference, other it will make little to no difference

I had someone on the opposite lane drove too close to my previous car back in 2011 and smashed the driver side wing mirror, claimed on his insurance and reported to my insurance company (tesco at the time). Tesco increased my premium by £100 the next year because of the accident. I asked them why it was increased when it wasn't my fault, they came back saying the computer said so...

Since then, I found roughly £20-£150 difference when comparing quotes (with declaring the accident and without) on gocompare. When I rang them and ask why's there a different, they all pretty much said they are just following what the computer screen shows them and nothing they can do... it's really annoying but what can you do at the end of the day? You suck it up and pay your money to these money grabbing bas*ards.

Statistics state that if you are involved in an accident irrespective of fault, you are more likely to be involved in an accident and as such insurance companies see you as a higher risk, meaning they take the opportunity to relieve you of some more hard earned.

Just don't get me started on the massive con tthat is called NCB ....

Non fault claims. And they won't take my ncd away. Unless they decide the accident was my fault. However that's not a possibility as I'll take him to court if that is the outcome.

The guys side of the story is : he was parked with his handbrake on and I hit his parked car. If you ask me, it would be hard to hit the front of his car with the back of.mine at 30mph on a dry day.
Now the annoying wait for the decision.

When I get the car back, a dash cam Will be one of the first things going on the car. So many idiots on the road

Funnily enough, after i had an accident just over a year ago, the first thing i bought was a dashcam

Now you just have to wait 6 months for the joy of 5 phone calls a day from the Ambulance chasers trying to get you to make false personal injury claims, i still get a few 14 months after my accident

Believe it or not before the accident, when I was at work,
I was actually thinking about getting a dashcam. It would be useful in case of an accident especially if the other person has said a lot of shit.
Any recommendations? Looking for a tiny one though

This is the one i got, after doing a lot of research to find a decent, cost effective camera that was small enough to fit behind my rear view mirror

You can just about make out the wire running behind the rear view mirror, from the drivers seat it is totally unseen

Oh that's pretty cool. I like what you've done to the interior, May I ask how you did it, or did you just paint them yourself? Also where did you connect the dashcam? Cause your wire disappears:p

Cheers, the dash is vinyl wrapped in black & white graffiti style wrap

As for the dash cam, it's wired into the fuse box at the end of the dash by the drivers door, the wire is simply pressed into the roof liner and down the inside of the A pillar trim

All I used was a piggy back fuse and wired into the rear wiper fuse, but any other fuse will do, as long as it's only powered with the ignition

Do your research on VW approved Bodyshops, Mine just came back from lookers in Blackburn. The metal work was fine, but the rest of the job was poor. They lied to me throughout the repair and the car still needs to go back for a 3rd round of remedial work and I'm still finding bits of trim they have broken.

That's very disappointing. I made the comment not based on quality but just incase there needs to be a claim against the 12 year corrosion warranty in future. Sadly, modern VW cars are getting a reputation for rusting.

My insurance put an excess on choosing my own repair centre.. So I went with theirs which is arnold clark. They will give me 5 year warranty for the rusting... which is okay as I doubt ill keep the car longer than that, depending in circumstances.
Has anyone had anything painted by then?
As a private garage that once painted my old car, did such a bad job. Like you could easily look at the car and see where it was painted.
If AC do that, I will not accept it until it looks like when I had it, with original paint.
I have every right to do that, yes?
