MPG really low, is this normal??

Hi,
I have a Scirocco GT and have had it for a couple months now (2nd hand), its been fully serviced etc but i have had one issue since the day i bought it. the MPG is really low, its around 25MPG i do motorway driving every other week but other than that its town driving. even though i do town driving shouldn't it be higher than 25? I know people will say that it depends on driving etc but it shouldn't affect the MPG to be that low, i was thinking of taking it to VW to do a diagnostics testing but that will cost around £70 for the first hour

Could someone help or advice?

That is a fair average for the 2.0 tsi engine. It's perfectly normal

My average overall (motorways, town, everything for the past 30.000 km is 10l/100 km. That is 24 MPG

Is it TSI or TDI? I had the 177 TDI GT and I was getting 42mpg, and that was with mainly town driving with the occasional motorway driving. I don't drive economically either! :)

For the diesel 2.0 engine probably you get around 30-40% more mileage with a full tank.

The first 2 replies were in relation to TSI engines which are less economical. I would definitely say you should be achieving more MPG than what you are, unless you race to every set of lights :)

I maybe did when i first got my car but rarely put my foot down, mainly because of pot holes etc. Should i go for a diagnostic test or is there anything else i could do?

In regards to pin pointing if there is an issue, unfortunately I can't help there but I'm sure one of the other guys who has more experience will be able to offer some advice! Are you using a good quality fuel?

I have a 170 diesel and I get high 40's and low 50's that's a mixture of roads and sensible driving. The lowest I've ever had it is about 35, if I was getting 25 I would get the diagnosis done. I'm sure the price you pay for diagnostics in VW is not by the hour, they had my car all day before and I only got charged about £64 or something

I would agree it's very low for a diesel. I get 40 odd around town and 50 - 60 odd on a run.

However, if you were constantly doing short journeys, less than 5 miles, the car would never get up to optimum temperature and you would get those type of figures. Diesels take a bit longer to heat up especially if they are stuck in traffic from the outset of the journey.

It's worth gettimg it checked as you could have a faulty MAF or coolant temperature sensor. Issues like this are notoriously difficult to track down without doing fueling logs on VCDS.

its definitely by the hour, its £69 for the first hour and then £83 +vat after. i know its a bit pricey but id rather get peace of mind and finding out nothing is wrong with my car than shelling out loads of fuel

Ive done an average of me driving motorway journeys and town driving, ive done 2000 miles in 2 months and the average is coming at 24-25MPG, ill get it diagnosed and go from there

Something must be wrong because I would average more than that in my R32. Good luck

I drove 150 miles last week with a mixture of A-Roads, Motorways and town traffic at rush hour, and averaged 60mpg with a 170tdi.

Calculated by the mfd or real milage and replenshing? Im not getting it higher then 47 mpg. But it's a dsg. Or maybe i have to try harder lol.
But on topic: I would first run a fault code scan and then check the injected fuel quantity by each injector with vcds and if there is a big deviations between them.
And you can also check the injection duration and starting point of the injection. But that data is harder to say something about or you have to compare it with someone else.
25 mpg is way to low.
