Oryx White Scirocco R

Hi everyone.

Been wanting to introduce myself and the Scirocco for a while but you know how busy life can be!

Anyway I started off looking for a TDI 184 but with me now covering less miles I thought i'd go all in for the 'R'. I viewed a couple in Candy White with higher miles and they just didn't do it for me (both looked as though they hadn't really been looked after and when it comes to cars I am a bit of a perfectionist).

One of my friends then got a Golf R in Oryx White and I just new that's what I wanted. I've since found out it's a bit of annoying colour! Every time I clean it and then suns out you see that incredible pearlescent effect and I run to get the camera but it's so hard to photograph! Definitely one of those colours that look better in the flesh.

I was patient and one came up with nearly every optional extra (just missing the bucket seats I think), low miles and Listers threw in an excellent finance deal for me along with 2 years free servicing, 2 years warranty and 2 years roadside assistance. I knew I had to have her!

So this is the day I picker her up. This was the Listers in Coventy and I can't speak highly enough of them (more about that later).

Now when I picked the car up I made Listers aware that the front bumper had a few scrapes on it and the drivers side skirt had a bodged repair job at some point that had an awful paint job (I think the forgot the car was Oryx White!).

Image

Image

Image

As I wanted to take the car on the day Listers agreed that they would cover the cost of a full front bumper respray and full side skirt respray, a lovey gesture. So i booked it the following week to get the work done. I used a company called Kidmans Paint and Detail and if you are in the Norwich area I highly recommended them.

I then had to wait a few weeks until I could give her a clean as recommended by the guys at Kidmans. And yesterday I finally managed to do so. The sun was out so got a few decent pictures to show here off! The car still needs a full on detail (the amount of tar on it is unbelievable) and a good coat of wax is also needed but I've got to wait at least a month before I can do that (again due to the new paint). Anyway, the pictures.

And that's where i'm currently at. I have a few small changes coming soon, VWR springs and H&R spacers have been ordered so those will be fitted in the next few weeks. Smaller mods that have also been ordered are LED under mirror puddle lights, upgrade cornering bulbs, full interior white LED bulb replacement kit, front brake caliper 'R' decals as mine seem to have fallen off (anyone else had this issue?) and some new number plates. I also need to clean those filthy exhaust tips when I get some time!

Any other suggestions are more than welcome. I keep toying with the idea of a cup spoiler but not sure they suit the white sciroccos that well.

Can't see me doing much engine wise and I will take a lot of inspiration from 'Victor' as i just love that car!

Cheers for looking.

Lovely car mate! Victor does tempt you into the small mods doesn't it haha. Luke has an oryx white with the cup spoiler may be worth having a chat with him. One thing that will worry me about it is the brake light and how you tricky to replace it if there's a fault.

Will look good with a set of spacers and down a little too!

Very nice R you have there! Great colour, but difficult to capture with a camera as you say.

Love the look of the Oryx white! Just out of interest where did you order the h&r spacers from? I'm looking ordering some.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'm really pleased with the car.

Spacers and lowering springs have just turned up along with lots of other little bits I'll be fitting over the next couple of weeks.

Updates here when I do.

Small job this morning - as mentioned before the 'R' emblem on my front brake caliper covers seemed to have gone AWOL during the previous owners time (not sure if this is a common issue).

So I purchased the following high temperature emblems from ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381444593759? ... EBIDX%3AIT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And fitted them this morning.

Much better!

They seem excellent quality but guess only time will tell how long they last.

Another quick update, changing the wing mirror puddle lights to LED units.

Thought I'd do a quick guide just in case anyone wants to do them and isn't quite sure how. Very easy job, takes about 10 minutes a side.

So here they are:

Image

And here's the link to the ones I bought:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281689997127? ... EBIDX%3AIT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The only tools you'll need are a torx screwdriver (t10) and some sort of plastic tool to lever the mirror away from the unit.

Image

So first off you want to position the mirror in the downward position as far as it will go. This will allow you to get the tool in behind the mirror and lever it away from backing plate.

Image

Image

Disconnect the heated mirror wires.

Image

Remove the two torx screws holding the plastic trim in place.

Image

Then use your chosen plastic tool/credit card to lever the plastic trim from the mirror casing itself. You can be a little more rough then you think at this point.

Image

One thing to be mindful of is this clear piece of plastic that shows if your indicator is on from inside the car. When removing the trim you have to pop it away from this or it will snap off. And let me tell you this is hard not to do. I got lucky with one side but snapped the other. Its no biggy if it does as you can glue it back in to place but just be careful.

Image

Once the bottom pops out you can feed it round to the top where a sharp pull will detach it from the mirror unit. Just showing the two clips holding the trim on.

Image

Push the bottom part of the mirror (plastic part) down and work the light unit out.

Image

Image

Remove the light unit from the bulb holder by simply pulling it out.

Image

Then remove the bulb. Again just a pull needed.

Image

Plug the new light unit into the bulb holder and fit the new unit in place. Same action as removing the old unit, push down on the bottom plastic part of the mirror and feed the unit back in to place.

Image

Make sure it is fitted correctly.

Image

Fit the plastic trim back into place by simply pushing into place until all the clips have locked on. You'll feel each time it clips into place, just be patient with it.

Image

Fit torx screws.

Image

Connect the heated mirror wires and push the glass back into place. Again you'll feel it once the clips lock on.

Image

Make sure it's all working.

Image

And wait until it goes dark to admire.

Image

A quick shot to show the difference between the LED ones and the standard unit. Hopefully you can tell which side is which!

Image

These really make such a difference and for £20 is no brainer. Another positive is they show off the oryx paint really well!

Lovely car fella.

I wish i could get as excited as everybody else when it comes to upgrading bulbs, though even i can see the difference those puddle thingies have made!

Top job.

This makes so much difference to the car! I don't understand why VW don't do it as standard anyway, especially with xenon headlights. Love it! It's definitely on the to do list for my car :)

Cheers Tom. I plan on looking through your thread at some point but at 16 pages long might have to wait until I get some time off work!

This is for two spacers robinalex so you'll need to order two lots to do all four corners (£148.42).

Mine have just turned up so will be fitting over the weekend. Will update here once I do so keep an eye open.
