Annoying niggles
Hi guys
Firstly happy New year for later on. This last week or so I've developed some annoying niggles, today for example coming home from work in the bright sunshine my lights are on. Set on auto but it's certainly not dark or dull lol.
This one's a bit more annoying, randomly for a few seconds I get check brake pads on the mfd, it's been doing this a few times when cold then it's not to be seen again. My brakes feel as fantastic as they ever did so does anyone have any ideas, things I can check etc?

Re: Annoying niggles
The lights coming on in bright sunshine is intentional. It's to make your car more visible to other driver's should they be blinded by the low sun.
They also come on if you drive at 80MPH for a period of time.
They also come on on the 4th continous wipe of the wipers if they are set to Auto. Again, to aid visibility in rain.
Check your front brake pads for wear as the low pad warning is conservative. The brakes could feel fine but the pad can be below the limit. If the pads are OK, could be a dodgy connection.

Some warnings only come on at start-up such as low petrol. Not sure about brake pads. Worth checking the pads as Cuprabob says.

In terms of the pads, check the wiring is still intact.
There is a wire that is attached to one of the front pads (drivers side I think). When your pads get worn it's what sends the signal to the dash.
Mine has become detached (as they are very fragile) and brings up the dash error. VCDS should clear it.

Re: Annoying niggles
Finally checked it at work today, wires have broken just above the sensor so I'll look on etka to see if just that section of the loom is available

Re: Annoying niggles
Do you mean just after the pad or the connection? As there isn't actually a sensor in there, it's just bare wires which will poke through to form a connection once they've worn to a certain point - or the other way round and the connection breaks can't remember. Either way, either side of the connection you can just pull the plug off and connect/keep wires apart and zip tie them off somewhere to get rid of the warning.

As cleandiesel says, it's just bare wires. Only way to fix is to replace your pads.

Re: Annoying niggles
There's two wires I think coming from the pads which goes to something which looks very much like a push fit connection, just above that on the car end of things one of the wires has snapped.

Re: Annoying niggles
Try connect the wires together, if that works to get rid of the warning then just zip tie them away somewhere safe.
